The fact that human beings are the one species that possess reasoning skills seems to be in some ways a curse rather than a blessing. Many of us want to go through life believing the best about everyone...this defies our animal instincts and can often land us in big trouble. You have instincts for a reason and I believe that the people who learn to recognize the signals that our psyche emits when there is danger in our wake live the safest and least harmful of existences. This is important to both our physical and mental safety. If you learn to trust yourself it truly only takes looking another person in the eye and paying attention to their body language as well as your response to both to know whether or not they are worthy of your trust... Trust is far more about our ability to protect ourselves than it is about any one we come in contact with.

Because everyone is not trustworthy. It's that simple. Some people lie, cheat, steal, manipulate, decieve, etc. Should they be trusted? If your response is "no", then you've already answered your own question. If you answered "yes", then you are setting yourself up for a tremendous amount of disappointment. You can continue to be nice and trusting, but you have to be smart too!
