There are several theories of dreaming and why people dream the way they do.
First off you have Freud's Wish Fulfillment theory, in which he states we dream to satisfy unconscious urges, a way to solve unconscious conflict.
Second is activation-synthesis in which the dreams are random thoughts and are meaningless.
Third, is a problem solving theory in which dreams give us a chance to adress problems we fave during the day.
These are all theories and their is no solid law that explains dreams. If you are having Night Terrors (extreme nightmares in which you act them out, scream, breathe heavily, hurt indaviduals etc.) that is a sleep disorder you must check out. If you are having just normal nightmares, your mind might be going through a way to solve these problems, just in a nightmare form. Nightmares should stop whenever you fix a problem that you are having. For example you may be nervous to ask a crush out on a date, and you will dreams that represent that and won't stop having those dreams until you ask them and find out the result. Somestimes you will have the same dreams constantly or same nightmares until the problem is fixed. However all this goes under the theories of dreaming, no one can be sure.
Caffeine is a drug as well, and if you have caffeine a lot your body may depend on it for it to function normally or produce effort. When I say drug, I don't mean it as a bad thing. I don't think your caffeine drinking from Coca-cola correlates or has a relationship with your dreams. If you have constant nightmares night to night and if it is worrying you, you might want to see a psychologists to assists you with any cognitive or behavior therapy to change habits during the day.
Good Luck, hope those nightmares go away soon!
