Don't get me wrong. I love my life, but it can't always be fun and enjoyable. There are things that everyone has to do in order maintain their lives as stable. You have to do what you have to do to get what you want. When I am in that "have to" stage in my day, I tend to go through it with a stoic, calculation and efficiency of a robot, I guess. It doesn't cause me distress, but it is hard to ignore compared to how I am when I am enjoying the fruits of my labor; loose, spontaneous, easy going and doing what I like. Does anyone else out there have this sense of duality?

in contemporary literature, and in the media and social interaction in general?

Does this have something to do with the limited attention span of 21st century man? Is it related to Attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)? Can we blame it all on that and Ritalin? Does it date back to August 1, 1981, the fateful date when MTV began broadcasting? Or does it go back to the earliest sitcoms or the advent of television itself? Does it perhaps predate even television?

Please share your views. I am open to controversy, welcome it in fact. Is my supposition itself full of holes? Tell me so.

I always get what I need to get done, and it always comes out well. Like my grad school assignments. I have a 4.0, but I leave my work till the end. Right now I have 2 hours left to do an assignment that is SOOO easy, but I just won't bother till I have a half hour left.

My father passed away this year and my mom was so close to him. Since that happened, my mom has become very child like and wants to move in with me and my boyfriend. My mom is not sick or anything...she works full time and is financially independent. I am not sure how to handle the situation. Since she is alone now she wants me to be her best friend and she wants to come see me every weekend. I already some spend time with her doing things like movies, shopping, etc... I can't help feeling that she wants to take over my life since growing up she was very over protective and intrusive, even until I left home at 20. Am I being selfish? I can't figure it out since I am still grieving my father's death as well. Family matters are just so complicated. I love my family, but I just feel like I need time to do my own thing and work on a career. If my mom were to move in with me she would have the whole place running according to her strict religious rules. Any opinions are welcome!
