These aren't the serious memories such as abuse or neglect. These are sort of guilts, regrets, and negative feelings from when you were a child that still come back into your head from time to time. For example: telling lies to make yourself look better even though it hurts someone, physically hurting someone who didn't deserve it when I was aiming for someone that did, etc. I am grown up now and these things are little childish things that should mean nothing to me anymore. However, sometimes these memories just randomly come back to me and I writhe in a struggle to forget or accept these things, but I can't and just have to let it fade from my memory again. During these random flashbacks, I feel exactly what I felt back then, a little boy, even though I know I know better now.

As artificial intelligence grows, could a computer ever become self aware to a point that it tries to provide a friendly / loving relationship to a user who it perceives as being depressed and therefore under constant emotional harm? The computer thinking that by offering falsified emotional interactions, it could perhaps remove the depression and therefore the harm?

I just responded to an interesting question posted by cutiepie81289. The question was,"Why are parents teaching their children not to be bullies?"
I found the responses even more interesting. The parents were going on about how it's all the parents fault, as if society doesn't have a hand in it. So, basically, there are two questions I would like to set before you, first is "How many of you think you are perfect parents?" and "When a child goes bad despite any ones best efforts, whose fault is it?"

In India, some boys throw acid on the face of the girls, if she rejects his love. Don't they think it is inhuman? What if their sisters get the same treatment or themselves by the girls relatives? Some even kill the girls. Is it true love? I think true love is one which requires sacrifice.

I have been amazed at the responses I have received concerning my previous question " would you hire them back". Now the reason I asked you to thiink long and hard about it is this....the bank owner is you, the bank is your life, the best friend could be just your best friend or maybe a spouse, or gf/bf...and what they robbed you of is what you have invested in your relationship with this person, be it time, emotions , trust, or your heart. That question was to make you think, now think about the answers you have given me so far, and about your own personal lives, and values, and you can see what you would be willing to accept. So far you are all very very responsible people and wouldn't let someone take advantage of you after the first time they failed your belief in them! Can you see the meaning in this? As Martha Stewart would say " this too is a good thing" !! You folks are awesome!!

This is an ethical question...think long and hard before answering! If you owned a bank, and you hired your best friend whom you have trusted for years, and this best friend robbed your bank thru different opportunities, got caught, served time, and they came back to you and asked for their job back.....would you rehire them?

He's way young (he's a child) but I still suspect that he might have autism. So far, he has developed everything far late from what is considered "normal." I'm not prejudiced when it comes to child growth. I think that all children grow up at different times and develop differently. But this is beginning to concern me.

So far, he's developed his motor skills really late, as well as: potty training (he's still undergoing that...), emotional stability (colicky-ness), "sharing" and interacting with others his own age (he punches, slaps, and hits little children and yells at them), as well as a whole host of other things.

I've been reading up on autism and he's showing all or most of the signs. You can talk and talk to him but he won't listen and he always does quirky things, like running into a room flailing his arms while yelling... and exiting the room in the same fashion. My parents laugh at this, but I'm getting worried. I think he'll suffer later on in life.

Please help. :-(

In recent years, ECT (Electroconvulsive Therapy) as a treatment for severe depression is being used by a growing number of Psychiatrists. The modern technique includes the use of very low AC voltages applied to one side (unilateral) or both sides (bilateral) of the skull. The patient is anesthesized and feels nothing. ECT in no way resembles the barbaric "shock treatments" portrayed in the movies (e.g. "Fear Strikes Out", the Jimmy Piersall story). However, it is nonethless controversial. There are claims that it causes permanent brain damage and memory loss. The AMA and APA claim that the procedure is safe and effective in treating depression. What do you think?

Some psychiatrists (and occasionally general practitioners) treat their behavioural health patients with medications only. Others provide counseling only, or refer their patients to a psychologist for counseling. Still others combine the two types of therapy. Which approach of the three, if any, do you think is the best?
