Each patient is different and therefore will be advised differently. Some may respond well to medications and others due to adverse reactions or sensitivities maybe to counseling. There is no true answer that works for everyone. Everything is usually trial and error and a willingness to seek help for your problems and actually follow the recommended advice.

Elements that do have influence in human behaviour:
a) Genes.
b) Environment.
c) History -personal past, traumas, etc.
d) Medicines can affect or benefit the behaviour.
Depending on the client or the person who gets the help, sometimes medicines are important but there has to be some equilibrium because some medicines could produce secondary effects and also some kind of addictions...I believe in Spiritual therapy too -meditation, praying, hope, faith, love-.
Everyone should understand what he or she needs and get the help, everything in the Human is linked, if you modifiy the environment then the rest of the person will change, if you change a gene then the attitude and behaviour will change if you change your food then even the way you think will change, so everything is related. You change one variable you change the whole system-
Thats why psychiatrists need to undertstand dreams, the past, hidden secrets, desires, to understand the whole person, one medicine cant heal the whole but can help to eliminate or treat some problems.
Sometimes with or without medicines what does count is the attitude of the client , if his attitude is bad then doesnt matter about medicines he wont heal, because has a negative energy if he wants to survive he recognizes he is sick and needs help, well thats a big step to understand more of his own intrinsic problems.

I think that it depends on the situation and on the needs of the patient. Some people simply need someone to talk to, and therapy provides that. In dealing with serious mental illness, medication might be necessary; a combination may also be used. I do not, however, advocate the excessive use of prescriptions-it seems that they are overly relied upon. Rather than dealing with difficulties on our own, we are using drugs as crutches. In this instance we are prolonging the pain and misery, rather than resolving.

that is a tough call for the psychiatrists to make. some try the Conservative approach and use just low level meds and See what happens. others go the more aggressive route of using both. it depends on what the doctor thinks is the depth of the patients problems.

I've been treated all three ways, and therapy along with meds (eventually weaned from them, of course) worked best for me. I think it depends on the intellectual capability/mental stability/willingness to get better... of the patient.

The use of the term "behavioural health patients"? Come on, who says that?
"No wrong answer format" (popular now-a-days in our institutions of higher learning)?

Each case is different. I ONLY take medications. I don't like therapy so I don't do it!
