I met this girl in college months ago and she moved so we kept in contact by internet.we were never v close friends but still a nice friendship & some sort of attraction. Then three months ago I was in her area on business and we met up and got on great and no surprise I think with the excitement of it all we kissed and stayed the night, she didnt do it..she's a real lady. A few days later she contacted to suggest meet up. I waited a while then got back to her but she had already left for home so we chatted and she told me Im invited if ever i want to visit her ..thing is she's off to far away places and rarely there. Here's my problem, since that contact, she hasnt been online at all but I heard she has chatted with a mutual friend (not about us)! Looks like she has blocked my account. Why is she doing this? I feel really bad like I miss her..shes a very nice person.

Or is this like the invention of fire and wheel so ancient that knowledge of which society first invented baskets is not known? Anyone else think baskets should rank with the wheel and fire as the big three technological inventions?

I speak not of our friends, per say...
But more so of the person who catches our eye from across a crowded room.
The one who instantly intrigues us with just one answer or one question here...

What does this say about us?
Are we these traits?
Do we want theses traits?

What do you think?

If you look around, a lot of people are unhappy. Sometimes its with their jobs or where they are at in life or just their life in general. Why? Don't we make our lives what we want it to be? If we don't like something in our life, can't we change it? Is there a reason that people just don't change it and keep living life unhappy? I have been wondering this for a while.

My boyfriend recently quit drinking. He was a bad drinker and quit cold turkey. Since then he has acquired this new habit of tsking and sighing and ehing everytime something is not perfect. The dog walks around his feet, he moans, the salt isnt in the perfect place (not even his house mind you) he tsks. I dont sit and watch tv with him right away, sigh sigh sigh. My kids do something "he" doesnt like and its tsk. Mind you he will put the whole combination together too. Tsk, sigh, eh, tsk. The eh sounds like he is Rose from the Titanic only in pain. What is this? Is there a name for it besides being a whining rump? Is this some type of manipulation? It is driving me insane. He is old enough to express his feelings as he is well into his late 30's. Any insight?

Even though the majority of Americans believe birth control should be easily accessible, the costs of birth control is sky rocketing. Why? The soaring costs are the result of an obscure provision in the Deficit Reduction Act of 2005 that stripped away a long standing incentive encouraging drug companies to provide steeply discounted birth control to certain low-cost health-care providers. The law took effect in January, 2007, forcing many health clinics across the country to ratchet up their prices. Some temporarily defrayed costs by stockpiling drugs before the law took effect, but those reserves are rapidly depleting.

In every year he has held office, Bush has sought to freeze Title X funding, which pays basic operating costs at more than 4,500 family planning clinics serving millions of low-income women. In fact, taking inflation into account, Title X funding is now 61 percent lower than it was in 1980.

How does restricting birth control for poor women help our society?

I often see questions in this forum asking why women aren't in jobs that are dangerous or strenuous (I guess the Iraqi war slips their minds). But is it a case of the chicken and the egg? These occupations, like fire fighting, have been traditionally male-dominated jobs, so are women worried about harassment or discrimation or the danger and physical exertion? Here's an article about the chronic racial and gender discimination occuring in the LA Fire Department: http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-fire3oct03,1,6660445.story?ctrack=1&cset=true

I don't want women to get special breaks, but I also don't want them to be sexually harassed on the job, such as unwanted touching, that occurred at the LAFD.

Do you think this is typical of traditionally "male-dominated" occupations? Gender discrimination and racial discrimination?

In the lawsuit, filed recently in U.S. District Court in Manhattan, the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said the company, Bloomberg L.P. engaged in a pattern of discrimination against pregnant women, including “decreasing their pay, demoting them, diminishing their job duties and excluding them from employment opportunities.”
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/09/27/business/27cnd-pregnant.html?_r=2&hp=&adxnnl=1&oref=slogin&adxnnlx=1191644343-ZN5zvqCacBzAk+t392W8zA

The lawsuit names three employees in particular who complained of unfair treatment, and says the discrimination began in 2002. During this time, the lawsuit says, a number of women who became pregnant or had just given birth were replaced by junior male employees, excluded from management meetings, and “subjected to stereotyping about their abilities to do their jobs because of their family and caregiver responsibilities." HR disregarded their complaints.

When will stereotypes end about caregivers?

i had a dream not too long ago that my grandfather (passed on for almost 9 years now) came to me and told me things. like how beautiful my children are and how he is proud of me now. he told me that he was dissappointed when i was younger and smoking pot. he is sooooo proud of me for going to school to become a police officer and how he wishes he could still be here so my babies could know him. he said that my grandmother (passed on about 5 years ago) wishes that she could talk to me but she isnt strong enough. i was really sick about 2 weeks ago and this was when this happened. he told me that i had to be okay for my kids. i know i sound crazy but it felt sooooo real. i was wondering if anyone ever had anything else like this happen to them. . .
