I'm quite seriously overweight, but I have recently started doing something about it.
I've altered my diet completely so now it's very healthy, I'm eating a lot less, and I'm getting exercise.
However, I want to start swimming again, and maybe going to water aerobics, but I have a problem there.
I'm embarassed to take my shirt off and go into a swimming pool full of thin people, as I'm ashamed of my blubbery body.
I know of course that it doesn't really matter, but that doesn't make it any easier.
How can I convince myself that it doesn't matter?

Now the nights are drawing in, I was feeling depressed the other day, so I called the Samaritans.

I was put through to a 'call centre' in Afghanistan.

I explained that I was feeling suicidal.

They got very excited at this news and wanted to know if I could drive a truck or fly an aeroplane....lol

I just spent the last 20 minutes laughing at the comments.

http://www.feministe.us/blog/archives/2007/10/03/help-a-humanist/

"My friend is pretty awesome but privileged enough (white, male, Christian, middle class, etc.) that he has trouble identifying his own privilege and identifying lack of privilege in others. He doesn’t believe the patriarchy exists, for example, and whenever I try to explain it to him I just get really upset and start crying. Not productive. I think the most annoying thing, though, is that he professes to believe in the goals of feminism but thinks it should be called… humanism. He also believes that rampant “misandry” gives some credence to MRAs. Ugh. How can I begin to guide him in the right direction? I don’t think he’s a lost cause. If you can point me towards a previous post or pose the question on a thread or something, I would be so grateful. I don’t even know where to begin. Thanks!"

When I was a child, I had alot of nightmares. Some I remember, some I don't. But everyone of them ended with me getting bit by a bat or a chicken (haha, I know, right?) in the middle of my back. When I woke up abruptly, I would have a very sharp pain in my back that would last a few seconds. How is this? Also, what's the deal with being half awake/half asleep? I would have bad dreams and can remember feeling awake, but I can't move, can't speak loud enough to be heard, but I can't wake up either, and want to so badly because I'm affraid of whatever is going on in my dream...weird

I am 20yo and im afraid that for the next 30 years of my life ill end up throwing money on selfhelp books, and therapy that dont work, simply because it is impossible to ever change to being more positive and selfconfident, if u missed your chance in childhood! im COMPLETLY hopless, weak, and afraid. I HAVE NO SUPPORT( FAMILY OR WHATEVER)... shpuld i just end my life? because for me the only realistic thing is, that ill never get out of this...ill be miserable all life long, id only screw up peoples lifes...what should i do?

Its just that theres alot more of us and they are just world bullys that need to be stood up to. Everyone lets them do whatever they want which is why they are so corrupt and oil obsessed. So why not start telling them they dont run the world they are just part of the whole!?

Americans seem to love the concept of freedom as do many other countries but for them it's not brought up all the time.

For example the Netherlands, Finland, Sweden. All countries with a better track record on education, health care, freedom of speech and human rights.

My question is what is it that makes American freedom so unique and why do you have the opinion that you have?

I'm not knocking America and I realise a lot of people will probably just get instantly defensive as I've read a few of the other questions on here that are along similar lines.
I love the place but I don't understand the whole obssession with freedom thing it really is beyond my understanding.
Especially as I've been to America and I don't see anything that any of the other countries I've been to don't already have.

Your thoughts please.

So i had a dream lastnight about a little cute white rabbit, it got locked into the jaws of a large dog. I was telling the dog to let go while putting my hand into its mouth. It replied that it wasnt going to let go of the rabbit. After i got the rabbit out of its mouth and away from the dog, it asked me why the dog was trying to eat it. All i could answer was that was what dogs do. And when i told it that i have eaten rabbit it looked at me with these wide teary eyes that i normally associate with joy saying "no, no, no" ... not that i was going to eat this rabbit i kinda think i liked it as a friend... but its been buggin me all day ... i mean really what would you do if you had a herbnavour friend in a world of carnivours?

So I met the girl of my dreams in class. Caught her looking at me and smiling at me, and I thought "holy ****, seriously" so over the next two weeks or so,I am shy, i get the nerve to talk to her. Nervous, I sound retarded, but I manage to make her smile. Four days later, nervous again, I talk to her and get her number. She gives me her number, and I called the next day.No answer. Called again a few days later, nothing. Now when I see her, she ignores me! it hurts so much, I want to die. I can't stop tjhinking of her. Why would she do that to me? Especially since she knows I am shy and nervous and stuff? this sucks. And I have been through the whole breakup thing a couple times, but this hurts more than anything i ever been through my whole life. I don't know what to do, I have to go to class 3 days a week with her, but i have been ditching classes to avoid seeing her ignore me. Why is she doing this to me? I wanna die so bad, but all I can do is type this..What can i do? Help me.

How does this work? Is it true that a country can print as much money as they like, to for example, pay off a national debt, and they don't need to raise taxes to do so? Why doesn't every country just do this? Inflation? How does inflation work and how would china feel if it got paid the money it is owed by america in funny money, won't that just bring the value of the money down so much that it wasnt worth borrowing it to them in the first place?

What things do people do that's considered sick besided serial killer or child/animal abuser/molester? My brother told me something about my nephew doing something sick & how my nephew ruined the whole family, & so I guessed it could've been child molestation or murder. He thought I had my mind in the gutter. What else could be considered sick besides murder, sex, etc. I thought those were the only 2 types of things that would consider you a sicko. I know I'm undeducated on a lot of things.

I am in a room standing in front of a very large window. One each side are two double doors, also with windows. In these rooms I can see families and small dinosaurs playing and interacting together. Parents are putting their young children on the dinosaurs backs and letting them ride them. My thoughts are "why can't these people see the danger they are putting their children into". The exchanges continue. All of a sudden I hear a horrific sound. A deafining rour. No one seems to notice. I look out the window and a Huge T-Rex is headed straight for us. Rouring as it aproaches. No one notices and continues on with what their doing. As the T-Rex arrives just outside the building I wake up, with it's deafining rour still in my ears.
What does this, in your opinion, mean?

Or would you prefer a woman who was curious, open-minded, supportive, and friendly, but tended toward feminism?

I'm a Psychology Major working on a theory of mine based on Intuition and Deja Vu. I have my own opinions and studies, but I'd like to get some other peoples' perspectives to help me narrow down my field of research. Any detailed personal accounts of intuition and deja vu would be most appreciated.

If anyone knows of sources that may be of help in my study or any previous studies in this branch of research, I would be most grateful.

Thank you for your time and willingness to help out.

It's hard to get the title correct for this question.

Ok so just say a person bends over backwards to help, encourage, support and show a person what they could be. Why is it that the person being helped can't see or refuses to see the big picture even after the original party makes it clear that they do it for other people?

I mean surely a person can see whats happening without it being spelled out for them can't they? And if they can why do they continue to ignore the problem?
