I'm quite seriously overweight, but I have recently started doing something about it.
I've altered my diet completely so now it's very healthy, I'm eating a lot less, and I'm getting exercise.
However, I want to start swimming again, and maybe going to water aerobics, but I have a problem there.
I'm embarassed to take my shirt off and go into a swimming pool full of thin people, as I'm ashamed of my blubbery body.
I know of course that it doesn't really matter, but that doesn't make it any easier.
How can I convince myself that it doesn't matter?

Go at times when the pool is quiet, (Many local pools run an 'early bird session' so there aren't many people around. and remember: You are in there because you are doing something about your weight. You will be surprised at all the different shapes and sizes that you see.

It's only a few seconds that you will be walking about - from the changing room to the pool, and back again. Once you are in the water, no one can see your body!

Also, you find a lot of old, saggy, wrinky people enjoy swimming too, and they aren't ashamed!

Be proud on making it this far, and stay positive!

Well, first thing, don't worry! Things are not as bad as you think. I had more or less the same problem when I joined my gym a few years ago. I thought everybody there would have a super body while I was all chubby. Well the first day I realised I was wrong! Of course you could see there people with great bodies, but also chubby people like me. Gyms and pools are there for that purpose, get fit and get in shape, so you won't find just gods and goddess there! Anyway, you are working hard to lose that weight that makes you suffer so much. You are in the right direction right now, so I think going swimming or water aerobics is a great idea!!! Go for it with no doubts!!! you will feel much better, and you have to fight against your demons! I know it will be hard at the beginning, but after a while you will even laugh of your silly doubts!! Trust me the pool won't be full of mermaids! Best of luck!

Oh bless you.
I think its FANTASTIC that you ARE doing something about it. Good for you!
Try telling yourself that you ARE taking action. OK, so you know you are over weight, but you are changing that. So in time, things will change.
Buy yourself a really nice new costume. Honestly don't wear a t-shirt over the top it will not "disguise" your size and just makes you look more "obvious". Can you go with someone else, for moral support? I am sure you will find other over weight people there also feeling the same! What makes you think all the "thin" people in the pool like themselves and how they look anyway? They might not have any confidence either!
Be courageous, be brave, go for it! You will be so proud of yourself afterwards and you will get to be more confident each week as your body starts to change.
Best of luck!

The industry has spoken, the industry isn't some magical Genie. It displays what we've carried out. China has a great financial gadget, and people make China look plenty extra hefty then this is. China has countless funds all in funds, so in the event that they supply up commerce with the US the cost of the US greenback will take a dive. So if China had a million Million US funds (i comprehend its extra yet for simplicity's sake) it would exchange right into a million/2 a million funds. China is not any key. i'm chinese language and am saying this. the worldwide financial gadget is amazingly American-centralized. so one can restoration the yank financial gadget via combating "stimulus plans" The industry is not any pastime, it weeds out opposition, good now its telling US many agencies are not extra healthful. We enable the recession ensue, devoid of increasing taxes on importations. as quickly as the US starts to strengthen the worldwide will stick to, they'll start to purchase from China(besides as from Europe and India) lower back. all of us will frequently start to strengthen. it is not a disaster the industry is doing what it does superb, this is Capitalism at its top. You compete for the industry. supply up freaking out, some funds may well be mandatory as a stimulus yet i don't see a reason to surrender the worldwide financial gadget with cost lists. It should not be skipped over. a million/2 the reason we are doing so undesirable is via the fact the Media turns each and every thing right into a cleansing soap opera. only circulate away or not it is, the industry will maximum suitable itself. according to threat with some agencies long gone, however the worldwide is functionally capitalist. So supply up panicking and brace your self for some tough years. enable the faulted agencies circulate down.

You are seriously overweight, and you want to start swimming?!?! And you are having doubts?

Listen here,

People are going to be IMPRESSED that you are doing it, AND think you're awesome. *I* am proud of you! You're more motivated that other "fit" people. Heck, you're more motivated that I am! You have NOTHING to worry about. If someone laughs, you'll be the one laughing in the end when you're in shape.

As with everything else, make sure to check with your doctor is it's okay for you to do such an exercise.. it can hurt a lot!

Remember the end results (you'll be in shape and feel healthy), keep it as a picture in your mind, as you go swim, so that you don't come back home without swimming.

Best of Luck, I know you can do it. Don't forget the doctor visit! *waves*

You cannot convince yourself that 'It does not matter' while all the time 'it does matter.'

To do that would be a lie.

You need to 'understand' that it does not matter ~ that they state you are in is transitional ~ like the state you are in between Birth & Death, between your night~wear and your nudity and your day~wear.

If you should manage to slim down and look like some glamour-puss, or so glorious Goddess, again, it's only a transitional stage ~ and it's not actually 'who you are.'

None of what is on the surface is 'what / who you really are,' just like Simon West, the soldier who was bardly burnt in the Falklands war and has had face rebuilt through plastic surgery. What you see is not who he really is.

If others see you as - whatever they see you as, ok, it's just an opinion -- and there are MILLIONS of them, millions that you are never every going to change (directly). It's yours that you need to change ~ it Your Own that you can work on and change.

I wish you good luck ~ with Your Self.
Sash.

During the day, the gyms usually have a swim class for overweight people. You will not feel uncomfortable, because you will be with a group of your peers.

You can also do as I do, keep my shirt on. I don't have much of a weight problem, but I feel uncomfortable showing my body to strangers.

I am thin right, but i think people should have a great deal of respect for you because of the fact that you are doing something about it not just sitting on your couch eating cake. Ill be the first to admitt how thin people dont understand how hard it is to lose weight because iv never had to try but i know its tough, so keep your head up and be strong. A strong mind is a strong body too so just remember you doing it for yourself not for them. good luck

well my feeling in this is that if you want to get somewhere you have to accept that criticism will come but the best reward is how you feel at the end of it sometimes a little modesty and being conscious of how you may look to others is enough to spur you on even further .what you must not let happen is the fear of what i just said to override your ambition to achiev your goal ,dont forget that most of those people were probably in your position to and thats why they are there ok, this answere probly sounds a bit muddled but thats just it there is no real answere but the one you provide for yourself be confident and bugger everyone else its you who is going to benifit noone else goodluck and move forward into your new future ok.

Well, something I can tell you for sure, is that the other persons, slim or not, won´t think of you really much. Each and one of them are so concerned about the way they look on a bathing suit. So, don´t worry, they´ll be thinking of themselves most of the time.
Hope this is good for you and congratulations for doing something for your health. I´d personally admire people that want to change their body and I know many persons (pool persons included) think the way I do.
