when people take advantage of your presence and your kindness and they basically walk all over you. & you try to be nice and friendly and forgiving, but they always winde up screwing you over again. how can this be stopped without ending a valued friendship [well valued to me at least]...?

I was getting ready to graduate from the 8th grade. We were living with my grandmother at the time and my aunt lived behind her in a mobile home. There is a path that goes back and forth between my aunt and grandmother's house. I was in my graduation outfit walking down the path when this huge snake jumped on my back and wouldn't get off. I was screaming "help help" but my mother, grandmother, and aunt all just stood there watching and laughing at me. What does this mean? By the way, the snake never actually bit me.

I have confidence in the science of psychology.
However, I do not have confidence in the business of psychology.

I think there's a pretty good chance that too many therapists are simply in it for making money, as opposed to practicing psychology out of an altruistic desire of genuinely helping people.

How many countless people could be helped if the business factor was not an issue? With rates usually around 100 dollars for a fifty-minute session, it's no wonder the world is going insane. Very few average people can afford that.

Ok I know this is an odd question but here goes. I am half Chinese and half black. My mother is from Hong Kong and after coming to the US she met my father, who is black, who was in the military. He left us when I was 3.

I have grown up around my mom's family and I have always felt like an outsider. They always made me feel ashamed to be half black, like I wasn't as good as my cousins because they were full blooded Chinese. Whenever I was in the city with my aunts and we would see obnoxious black people, my aunts would say things to me like "You need to be careful to make sure that you don't turn out like that. Don't sell drugs and be a menace to society." Throughout my childhood I always hated myself and wished so desperately that I could somehow get rid of my black self.

Now that I'm grown up I know that these bad feelings are not rational, and that I should not be ashamed of my black heritage, but I can't help it. I just can't get rid of those thoughts. What can I do?

I find myself having "internal dialogs" all the time. And sometimes I talk to myslef outloud, like if there were two persons within me. Like I ask something and then answer to myslef, or just remind myself of stuff, or just anything. I don't think I'm crazy or anything, I actually enjoy talking to myslef, and it's not like I dont have any friends. But most people say it is weird and in society it seems like it is not quite normal.
So what do you think? do you ever talk to yourself? outloud?

A tragic hero is a good person who ends up letting his/her despair destroy them and those around them. They then unravel and do something "evil". Because of their emotional turmoil, they feel their actions are the only way. We can feel empathy for these characters because their story is very human. Given similar circumstances, we might have gone down the same path they did. What are some good examples of a tragic hero? I can think of Anakin Skywalker, Hamlet, and MacBeth...

It disgusts me that some women that have children don't have the common sense nor instincts to protect, love and care for their babies. Read the newspaper any given day and you will read heartbreaking stories of women abandoning, neglecting and sometimes harming their children, while female animals of all species have an instinct to protect their babies. Why is that?

Please list at least ten things that you fear the most; MORE is ok too. Examples would be fears of heights, dark, (deep) water, insects reptiles and rodents, enclosed places, public transportation, tunnels or bridges, crowds, public speaking, flying, storms, even death.
