My children saw a Bird today, that was brown and black and speckled white, under wings was white, and in size about a 3ft wingspan and 1 1/2 ft tall. In our backyard, it hunted and caught a bird (woodpecker)that was flying and the Bird caught it in mid-air. is that normal? we live in the suburbs and my second time seeing a bird swoop and catch its dinner, in my yard.

I heard there are only a few hundred left in the wild. But this is a huge cat! Some have been known to weigh nearly 1/2 of a ton and have a length of 10 ft. including the tail. These Big Cats need Big territory sense they are not social animals. I would like to see the numbers increase but alot of people are afraid of them and alot of them have been killed because of how the cats have come into contact with more and more people moving into the cats territory. Of course this is no Cat to take lightly! Because it has been know to eat fully grown brown bears! Hopefully people will quit killing animals just for the fun of it or for their fur. Thats just wrong!

I am highly interested in ecology, I have always loved nature and just being outside, or studying whats out there and so on...
If I pursue environmental sciences, though, will I be stuck lecturing biology or something--- is there much of a future in ecology?

First of all, sorry if this is in the wrong category, it gave me 2 choices, this or the weather!

This morning on my way to work, it was absolutely chucking it down with rain and very strong winds. I passed a field with sheep in it, probably about 40 or so of them. They were all laid down but dotted around the field. None of them were together, all on their own.
So my question is, why on earth don't sheep huddle together when the weather is so atrocious?
My job can be very tedious at times so Ive been pondering this on and off all day!!

I have a coworker who hates spiders, and I would like to release an unholy number of them in his company vehicle. Using tarantulas would be effective, but costly.

Where can I buy generic, run-of-the-mill spiders in bulk in the United States? Are they ever used as feed for pets? Please keep in mind, I do not wish to kill my coworker, just scare the everloving bejeezus out of him.

This is absolutely true -- I saw something very strange yesterday. Standing in a grassy knoll, thousands of seagulls were flocked closely together. But what was strange was most of them were standing still and facing the same direction! It was like they were all watching a concert or something. Can anyone explain this?
