I have a coworker who hates spiders, and I would like to release an unholy number of them in his company vehicle. Using tarantulas would be effective, but costly.
Where can I buy generic, run-of-the-mill spiders in bulk in the United States? Are they ever used as feed for pets? Please keep in mind, I do not wish to kill my coworker, just scare the everloving bejeezus out of him.

I like this idea, you've got balls. The reprocussions could be tremendous. Some people go into a meltdown when surrounded by spiders. I'm talking survival mode. I think you have dismissed the tarantula idea too quickly. you can order live spiders on the internet for about $15-20 each....the stupid little mexican brown ones....and request 1 male and 1 female. Put them in a breeding tank and wait for the crop of little ones. they produce hundreds of live spiderlings in a single 1-6 month gestation. That seems to me like a small price to pay for such torture. A prank this good will still be good in 6-8 months when you have an army of 200 brown fuzzy fear machines at your command. Good Luck.

PLEASE DON'T unless your are wealthy with a large building with steel reinforced windows with built in play equipment and are willing to have more that one as they are social . Also they throw their feces and smell like it too they are stronger that any man and will always find some way to escape unless you borrow an adviser from the zoo with whom you would need to have a relationship with to provide vet services . You REALLY need to think about this

go to walmart buy a few rubber ones
tie with fine fishing line to car door handle ( inside ) so when he opens the door they come right at him.
much less likely to kill him while driving too
if he's that freaked out about them, he could have an accident and kill other people too
