It is really hot and humid right now where I live. The house I rent a room in is an old one and doesn't have any air conditioning. My room is upstairs (stupid rising heat!) & even though I have my fan running full blast 24/7, I cannot escape the heat! Any suggestions on how to keep cool when I'm in my room?? Thanks!! :)

Currently in SLC Utah the temp is 98 degrees. 20 miles up the canyons of the wasatch natl forest it is 108 degrees. the elevation in the wasatch is approx 9000 ft give or take. In the past 10 years i have never seen the wasatch so hot. I worked up there in the summers because i knew it would be at least 10 to 15 degrees cooler....This increase in the mountain temp has got hotter all week. Mother nature is confused?

We had "insane" weather yesterday. Now,another storm's coming and the barometer's dropping.(by insane I mean small tornadoes, lightning causing small fires and we're in the ca. desert.)

My husband, myself and some other people were in the california desert during a thunderstorm yesterday.A "twirling" wind was spotted, larger than any dustdevil we had seen. Two kids had debri(awning and tree branches) fall on them, fences were shredded,it had branches inside it as it was moving. It showed up a minute or so after some activity(lightning, sprinkle of rain, thunder) came from the storm.

My air-conditionar is broken, and I cannot afford to have it fix. I could sleep because in California we hit the 3 digits. Today is so bad, that 3 A.M. in the morning the fan is not bringing cool air from outside.
Could I die from this heat in my condo?

Can a scientist who is in the 'know' tell me honestly how long we have before the Gulf Stream is fcuked and enough fresh water from the arctic melts and dilutes the Atlantic Conveyer and stops it and makes the film 'Day after tomorrow' (NASA, by the way, from what I've heard wasn't happy about some of the claims that film made - bit too near the truth apparently - and wanted it changed - a bit like the U.S. Army wanted the 'plausible liability' dialogue & Area 51 scenes changed in the film 'Independence Day') a reality! When do I need to by a Parka coat and my eskimo boots from the ex-military clothes shops etc., and to brush up on my survival training - I know it can't be too long now and it's not a case of IF but WHEN - could a good quality meteorological scientist and/or scientists give me the bottom line please !
