It is really hot and humid right now where I live. The house I rent a room in is an old one and doesn't have any air conditioning. My room is upstairs (stupid rising heat!) & even though I have my fan running full blast 24/7, I cannot escape the heat! Any suggestions on how to keep cool when I'm in my room?? Thanks!! :)

get a bowl with some water and ice. dip a cloth into it and place it on yourself. (i find the head is usually best)

don't forget- we will all be complaining in the winter that it is too cold.

One, make sure that air is actually getting replaced in your room, and not just circulating. Instead of pointing your fan on you, open the window, and point the fan out of the window, which will create a low-pressure pocket in your room, and force more air in from throughout the rest of the house. This won' t help a lot, but might make it a bit more bearable. It ensures that you get fresh air, and not just hot air that keeps getting hotter because it can't leave the room.

I've read some good, common-sense answers to this question. Here's an idea: Since you're renting, you might ask your landlord for permission to put a small air conditioner in your window. Just be prepared to pay the difference in the electric bill, which could be considerable. BTW, I recommend A/C in this case, because evaporative coolers are ineffective in high humidity.

Get an air conditioner if you can, also even if not get the darkest shades possible for any windows and pull them down to as far as you windows are opened for air, this will cut down the amount of direct sunshine blazing in and help some. also a bucket of ice in front of your fan in front of you will give you some relief.

The best way to keep your room cool is to keep all the blinds closed and the fan running.

there's no need for your room to get cool. you only need to drink water regularly.
The fan is a good thing, it will help your perspiration evaporate and cool YOU down a little. The human body is well made, you'll survive.

But if you want to feel a bit cooler, spray some mild water on yourself.

Hopefully there is a window. If there is, you should get a window fan.
