Yes they can. They are all over the place.
Even though it is hot here it is not the dessert yet ;-))).
I live in Austin.

I live in Austin and I never remember seeing one. It will freeze down to 16 degrees a day or two in the winter. Maybe that is why?

I'm sure they can. If we can have them in Waco, TX then I do not think Austin wouldn't be so hard either.
