Can a scientist who is in the 'know' tell me honestly how long we have before the Gulf Stream is fcuked and enough fresh water from the arctic melts and dilutes the Atlantic Conveyer and stops it and makes the film 'Day after tomorrow' (NASA, by the way, from what I've heard wasn't happy about some of the claims that film made - bit too near the truth apparently - and wanted it changed - a bit like the U.S. Army wanted the 'plausible liability' dialogue & Area 51 scenes changed in the film 'Independence Day') a reality! When do I need to by a Parka coat and my eskimo boots from the ex-military clothes shops etc., and to brush up on my survival training - I know it can't be too long now and it's not a case of IF but WHEN - could a good quality meteorological scientist and/or scientists give me the bottom line please !

It's not flooding I'm worried about - it's FREEZING - SUPER FREEZING that concerns me - after that Gulf Stream comes to a complete standstill coz it's getting diluted - I haven't been convinced otherwise yet and some seem to have conveniently fogotton about the Boxing Day Tsunami ! As for being paranoid - I wonder how many people know that Hollywood's R+D budget is bigger than NASA'S !!!

it seems that the Brazilian rain forests have had their first drought in recorded history. it also seems that the El Nino may fix itself permanently off the coast of Peru and if it does the worlds weather will be dramatically affected.

be afraid, be very afraid!

If all the ice melts, won't that add more pressure to the sea bed? and won't that release methane trapped in the sea bed? adding more greenhouse gasses. I understand that the pressure of the sea on the sea bed pushes the land upwards. Your guess is as good as mine as to what will happen then, won't be much fun for us is my guess.

be terrified!

It's not just the arctic that's melting

You know something? You guys are no better than the Bible Fundamentalists preaching Armaggedon. For centuries, there have been times when it has been hotter than usual, as it has been colder than usual.

Also, even if what you're saying is true, it is very unlikely that any of that stuff would happen in our lifetime anyway.

Just look at the Y2K scare which started about 10 years ago and it went into fullfledge in '99. Everybody was stocking up on food and water and everyone was replacing their computers, and all for nothing, because Y2K came and went and there wasn't one single case where any computers fell apart anywhere in the world. I'm still angry over the unnecessary scare that we were put through because of it.

Stop instilling unnecessary fear. We have enough to worry about without that kind of a burden on our minds!

Well, it has been proven that burning rainforests for example increases these gases and slobal warming. And if the thought of a completely different Earth in 200 years with an average of 8 degrees hotter everywhere, massive droughts, much less plants/animals and a messed up Earth doesn't scare you then I'm soryy but be the selfish one as your children and their children will HAVE to make it a burden when they become the scientists, politicians, consevationists etc. that have to deal with it in much less-hopeful circumstances we are in now. If indeed a natural change, we are no doubt not helping it.

i dont think the superfreezing thing is realistic. more likely the weather will just get colder and colder over many months.

the whole way the cold air put the helicopters down was flawed.
