Our country sent (mostly) men who were genetically healthy, emotionally strong, with intestinal fortitude into battle...losing hundreds of thousands.

With so many healthy men being killed in war, does it increase the percentage of men left at home who are men with genetic defects and mental illnesses or weaknesses?

My question: could the deaths of healthy young soldiers from our nation be the cause of an increase in genetic defects which (might) cause obesity and mental illness (depression) in our young?

I'm a high school senior, and I'm planning on majoring in Chemical Engineering. However, I am also considering med school afterwards (to become a Family Physician, maybe.)

I know I'd have the qualifications for it, but I don't know if everything will just be too overwhelming/strenuous. 4 years of med school + 3 years of residency + fellowship + yearly examinations + other stuff I don't yet know about equals a huge chunk of your life during the years that most people settle down and start a family.

So I guess my question (sorry it took so long) is how much devotion does a career in medicine require? Don't get me wrong, I like to be challenged, I'm a hard worker, but I don't want to be "married" to my career.

So thanks for your help.

My blood pressure reading showed the following numbers:
SYS: 099
DIA: 067
Pulse: 61
Is this unusually low? Some foolish young girl was tossing a croquet ball in the air yesterday as I bent over to pick something off the ground and it hit me in the back of the head...is this playing a factor in the BP level? Serious answers only please.

I've identified seven different degrees that allow someone to both diagnose problems and prescribe medication. They are:

MD
DO
DPM
DDS
DMD
NP
PA

Am I missing anyone? And what is the difference between a DDS and DMD exactly?

I grew up in a family who greatly frowned upon people who used the system and allowed themselves to become welfare cases. I was brought up to work for what you have. Well ever since I was sixteen I have completely supported myself. Lately a lot of medical problems have come up for me though and I'm getting tired of just dealing with the pain, not going to the doctor, and risking having something serious because I simply cannot afford the doctor.

Is medicaid welfare? I need to see the doctor but I really don't want to be one of those people my boyfriend or father referred to when they said, "I have to go to work every day, millions of people on welfare are counting on me."

Heh. Info on Medicaid would be helpful. Thanks.
