I'd be a little suspicious. Many times, diagnoses can be made by history and physical exam alone, but it's always nice to have laboratory or imaging data to support them.

What kind of a doctor is this? Just curious.

Yes i would, i have very much confidence in my Family Doctor's opinion or diagnosis of my problem if i had one, but you can decide for yourself if you trust your Family Doctor to take his advice, or you can go to a specialist yourself and pay more money for something he could have told you.

yeah, you'll know within a short period of time whether you're feeling better or not, and isn't that the whole purpose of going to a doctor?
