I am currently a foreign university student in Singapore, majoring in Biomedical Science...I kinda regret my choice as I would like to do more hospital related job in the future rather than doing research.

1.Do you think with biomedical science degree you'll be able to work in the clinical hospital running blood tests or something like that?

2.I would like to be a doctor actually (cardiologist or oncologist). Can anyone give me a suggestion of what should I do next?

I recently had surgery and was given Vicodin for the pain. It didn't work any better than anything over-the-counter, so my Dr. prescribed Darvocet and it worked much better.

I think they're a combination of drugs?? I can't take Tylenol with codeine because it makes me sick. So the Dr. tried the others.

I guess I'm just wondering why one would be prescribed over the other. Just curious :)

I have a family member who has been addicted to Vicodin for about 5 years. While treatment would be most beneficial, of course, I feel like if he had an option - something he could try on his own... It may have a better outcome. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thank you.

Certain medical conditions have an increased risk factor based on sex. When someone changes sex through surgery and hormones, which risk category are they in - per or post surgery?

I assume both original genetics and current hormones play a role. Has this issue been studied?

I need facts, not opinions. A source will be helpful.

Thanks!

My doctor perscribed Cipro (generic name ciprofloxacin) for an infection on my toe. I didn't end up taking it because the infection cleared up on its own. I'm on an insulin pump and i have a skin infection where my infusion site is. Shouldn't this antibiotic take care of this infection also?

I've been experiencing tingling in my hands and feet and constant nausea. Occassionally, I have had little attacks where the nausea is extreme, I get dizzy, hot, and just feel horrible. When they pass, I'm tired and feel outta commission for hours.

One doc thought it was gastritis, so I'm waiting for an endoscopy and colonoscopy, but the likelihood of gastritis is slim, since I haven't responded to a ton of medications that are suppose to treat it.

Anyway, I was prescribed Apo-amitriptyline under a hypothesis that I'm not getting rest, when I sleep, which may be causing a misfiring in my brain. Does this make sense to anyone?? How would this medication help?? From what I can glean, this medication is a mild anti-depresant typically used to treat pain. But, the doc assures me, I don't have anxiety or depression. So, I don't get it??

I am also waiting to see a neurologist in the event that these symptoms are related to seizure/epilepsy

Imagine you got hit by a car and could be saved only by a special operation. The operation would give you a normal, happy life, but would unfortunately cause you fifteen minutes of terrible, stabbing pain every morning when you awoke. Would you want to have the operation?
