In the Film Conspiracy, Mel Gibbson's character Jerry Fletcher outfittied his appartment to self-destruct? WHen his apartment is raided he set it ablaze. But the rest of the building was left unharmed do to fire-containment systems he set up. Is it possible to rig an apartment or office in such a manner?

Can an apartment or office be designed to self-destruct like this (destroy the office/apartment without damage to rest of the rest of the building)?

I have a builder that is building a house that has spray foam in the walls and on the roof. I talked to the insulator and he said a rule of thumb is to use 1000 sq ft per ton, I can't use just a rule of thumb in need something solid. Does anybody know where to get info on how to run a load with this stuff? The newest edition of Manual J I have doesn't have anything in there about it. He can't give me any R-values on any of this because he says the values will be to low and it will look like I need to take out more BTUH. How am I supposed to do a job when I can't find any info about it.

I am trying to imagine the thickness of a metal sheet that I am told is 0.15. When I asked if this was mm. they said no, that it was in thousands. I am buying a product on the internet and would like to compare this measurement to something that will give me an idea of how thick the metal will be (for example, a sheet of paper, a sheet of cardboard, etc.)...

I'm modifying my xbox 360 by adding additional fans into the 360. The current stock fans (2 fans) run at 9v. but is rated for 12VDC. I'm going to add two more 12v. fans. I have found different 12v. sources on the motherboard.

My ideas are:
A. solder all 4 fans to the 12v. source for the DVD drive
B. solder all 4 fans to the power supply plug on the motherboard.
C. power by installing a open circuit jack for 2-conductor plugs and using a 12VDC/800mA adapter

The Xbox 360 power supply provides 203 watts, and 12v DC current at 16.5 amps, and 5v DC at 1 Amp.

Would the four fans combine take too much power away from the 360? Please let me know what might happen if I choose A or B. Thanks!

Here's how it would work: the space station would be situated near an artificial dam with special flow-through ports at its base. The shuttle would rest upon the rim of what looks like a huge wheel. When it's time to launch, the flow-through vents at the bottom of the dam are opened, and the water causes the wheel to spin. The wheel continuesto spin faster and faster until escape velocity is either almost reached, reached or exceeded, at which point the shuttle is flung from the wheel, utilizing perhaps a small amount of rocket fuel to assist in the ascent. The wheel would be balanced by weights, of course, the weight opposite the shuttle being detached at the same time as the shuttle itself.

Even remotely feasible?

I am not entirely sure how it works. So, because of the difference of impedance b/t lets say a transmission line and a load creates a difference of voltage. To cross this voltage some of the energy of the signal is given up and the rest of the energy can't cross this distance and reflects back. I kinda don't get how the last part affects the signals. Is it just interference with the reflected waves when the incoming waves go through or does the energy loss across this potential effect the waveform.

Lets consider a 1,000 ohm source impedance, 50 ohm wire impedance, and 10,000,000 ohm oscilloscope impedance, which was used during class demonstration. The cable was connected where he put a resistor 50 ohm and a 50 ohm terminator to show reduction in the noise. Don't you apply the reflection coefficient to the source-cable junction and then scope-cable junction. I got for one (10M/50 -1 )/(10M/50-1) that would mean the cable is infinite and should not be much noise.
