I've asked this question in the chemestry section with no results.

What chemical reaction happens in gingerroot that causes it to arc in a microwave?

I peel and freeze fresh gingerroot, defrost it in the microwave.
It doesn't matter which dish I use -- after about 10 seconds the root starts arcing, buzzing, and at the point of arc the ginger piece is blackened. This has happened everytime and only with gingerroot.
Why?

I have to think of an idea for a term project in a parallel computing course. I have some ideas in mind, but thought I would take suggestions from people that might know more about computing and maybe come up with something better.

It should be something that is possible for one person to complete within a month or so. Also, the subject must involve parallel computer architecture in some way.

Thanks!

I am looking for an Architect who is also a Structural Engineer, who can get involved with a development that I am doing this year. I am project managing the whole development, and would like to find someone, ideally a one man band, who can get involved immediately to discuss the project, and then to provide all drawings and calculations, followed by providing the necessary certification needed at stages along the way.
This is to be a new build and consisting of half a dozen 1 bedroom apartments, which is to be the first of many to come.

We are looking for an inexpensive way to generate our own electricity on a site which at present has none. Can we build our own wind turbine? If so, how?? How expensive would solar panels be to power a 2-bed, single storey house. We have all the usual "gumf", computers, tv, stereo and washing machine (aaa rated, of course". Only two adults in house so usage not too great.

We, unfortunately, have no stream for water power.

In my plant, our wastewater tanks are called Molley Browns (specifically, the pH test from the tanks are called that). I have been wondering why, but no one seems to know. Is this a common name across the industry (or at least along the Gulf Coast), or is it just some weird thing that is only at my plant? Thanks.
