I was wondering the other day how often the electronic scale at the grocery store checkout lanes are calibrated. Often times, when you purchase bulk items, such as fruit and vegetables, there is a different weight on the scale that is given at the checkout versus the manual hanging scales. Sometimes, the price difference works to your advantage, but more times than not, there is a few cents difference than expected. This is not a problem to the average shopper ( paying a difference of a few pennies), but in the long run, the grocery store is sure to make quite a few dollars at the end of the month from the additional and unexpected weight gain of the bulk items. So I am curious...does anyone know how often the checkout scales are calibrated? Thanks!

I have an idea for a new kind of invention. tell me if the idea is illogical, improbabble or logical, possible.

IN the distant future, when we have mastered nuclear fission, we could build tunnels for a specific car; a nuclear powered car. In the car, nuclear fission is done and the energy is let loose from its back. The energy could take you to your destination across the planet in a matter of seconds or minutes, through the special made tunnels. Now, we can calculate exactly the amount of energy needed to reach your destination before hand, that way you will not end up in an undesired location. THe nuclear fission could be done in a big factory or in the car . That way, the energy comes out the end of the car, but you could do it with small or big . I hope i explained everything i needed to explain. comment if i need to add more information for you to make a decision about the invention.

With 2 inlet ducts, and 1 outlet duct, how could you reduce the pressure difference at the inlet and exit without changing the mass flow rate of the fluid or the dimensions of the ducts.

I need an electric motor for a battery operated cutting tool that I'm developing. All major search engines seem to provide an overwhelming amount of product that doesn't match what I'm looking for. If anyone knows a great place to find electric motors, gears, and shaft connectors, it would be greatly appreciated. The approximate specs of the motor I need are: 12V DC, an offset shaft gearhead with an output speed greater than 5,000rpm, and a diameter less than 2".

Mud pumps are used in drilling rigs drilling for oil/gas. They are generally triplex reciprocatiing pumps of robust construction having capability to develop 5000 psi or more of discharge pressure and handling high viscous slurries.

I would like to add a 9v dc camera/transmitter to a device like a radio or similar that has 120v AC powering it but keep all the functionality of the device. How do you "rob" power from the main device to run the 9v circuit? I would like to learn how to integrate the two devices without losing any functionality of either.

On a recent edition of Time magazine is a sheet of what they say is Mylar. It looks just like metal foil. It acts as a good mirror whichever angle you hold it, so total internal reflection isn't involved. Is it just clear plastic backed by a metal film? If not, how does it work?

I have a few handfuls of scavenged inductors that I really want to know the inductance of. Some of the air-core inductors I've been able to somewhat successfully (worked in filters I made with them and etc) ballpark the value using formulas and programs from electronics sites. However, that really only works with the ones I am able to figure out the wire gauge and from there the number of layers, and the inner/outer circumference of the core. Also, I have a fair number of ferrous-core inductors that I can't measure either. I don't have the money or resources currently for an oscilloscope or signal generator, although I suppose I could just put together a quick oscillator for a signal to use...anyway, isn't it possible to just measure the current through the inductor (or maybe with a known value capacitor too) with 60-hertz line frequency with a known (obviously lower than line) voltage? Then calculate the combined reactance/impedance etc?

Hi,

I have a truth table from which I am supposed to create a circuit in LabView. If anybody has any idea on how to go about doing this, I would appreciate it!

Truth Table:

Input: 1, 1 Output: 0
Input: 0, 0 Output: 0
Input: 1, 0 Output: 1
Input: 0, 1 Output: 1

Thanks!
