Not a new question I think but WHY?? I understand positive and negative, maybe even a ground wire, maybe more if you have several different voltages going into one wire... but why so many shapes? There's 4-pin round connectors, inline connectors, inline with a notch or a triangular side, square connectors, square with D-shaped side, square with a notch, plus round OR flat pins, or combinations of the two, or differently angled flat pins.... WHHYYY?

What size wood beam is needed to replace load bearing wall?
I would like to remove a load bearing wall in the basement of my two story house. Cut 2x10 floor joists are now supported by this wall. On one side, the room area is 138sqft (2x10's are 10'10'' long), on the other, the room area is 96sqft (2x10's are 7'6" long). The unsupported span of the beam will be 10'8". What size LVL or Parallam do I need?. What is the best way to support the ceiling during wall removal and beam installation? Is there something I can rent to avoid building temporary walls?

Thanks!

Degaussing coils are used to correct color issues on television sets (and other types of video monitors). Many computer monitors have a degauss button built-in, many televisions do not. The coil creates a powerful magnetic field. This field can erase floppy disks, cassettes, etc. What about RFID chips (such as the type forced upon US passport holders starting next year)?

I heard that sometimes there is a separate power plant that is built right next to the steel mill for the gas/heat byproducts that would otherwise be wasted. Is this true in the case of US steel mills? I am looking for a list of US steel mills that do this.

It was too far from the Twin Towers to suffer any structural damage, the fire inside Bldg 7 was small, Bldg 7 housed important offices like the NYC mayor's emergency command center, CIA and IRS offices, and the building collapsed STRAIGHT DOWN like it was a controlled demoltion.
If debris from the Twin Towers were responsible for the collapse of WTC 7, then wouldn't it have collapsed from the BASE of the building instead of from the top falling down like in a controlled demolition?

One of my ongoing projects is to save electricity costs at my plant. We have several continuous-duty electric motors used to run things like conveyor belts. My question is, would shutting those motors on and off (ie: on for 20 days, off for 20 days) appreciably shorten the motor's life? I need to know if the plant would save any money by using less electricity, versus the replacement cost of the motors. Thanks.

The normal practice to break cast iron large chunk is to drop big steel ball over it from a hieght. This process in unsafe and crude considering todays technology. Since cast iron is some what rigid, liquid nitrogen stream over it may create differential expansion/contraction leading to development of crack and there fore breaking into pieces.
