Not a new question I think but WHY?? I understand positive and negative, maybe even a ground wire, maybe more if you have several different voltages going into one wire... but why so many shapes? There's 4-pin round connectors, inline connectors, inline with a notch or a triangular side, square connectors, square with D-shaped side, square with a notch, plus round OR flat pins, or combinations of the two, or differently angled flat pins.... WHHYYY?

dimple, it 's so you don't connect the headlight switch to the radio , wipers to the horn , or the distributor to the air conditioner. each harness has it's own connector so they only hook up to themselves

You can't put 10 amps on the connectors used for USB, now can you? So, right off the bat, you've created a different connector requirement. And you can't use the 10 amp connector on a laptop in place of a USB connector, right?

lots of countries have differnt shapes to prevent people from plugging in products designed for different voltages and hertz...

as you wouldn't want to plug in a device designed for 110v to a 220 volt outlet and you would blow it up and putting a device designed for 50 cycles in a 60 cycle plug would cause problems too.. so to prevent this some other deisgns were developed.. there are more than just the 4 or 5 you would think you'd need in some cases due to national restrictions and rules.. that require additional safety or security...
