a physical model is an equation or set of equations that are used to approximate some real physical phenomenon.

for example, the Hopkins model for light transmission

It's literally that. A physical model that represents some situation or object.

Instead of drawing a car that had a new design of some sort, you could build a model of it to illustrate the idea.

its like a small model city, basically a model of something much larger I do believe.
