Allen head is hexagonal. Phillips is ' x ' shape.

Allen is better. A lot less likely to strip out.

Phillips head is a common type of screw driver with an X slot in the top of the screw. An Allen head is a hex (six-sided) wrench with a matching hex cut into the screw or bolt.
Neither is "better" depending on the application - more torque can be applied with an Allen head without any pressure needed to keep the tool inserted, but a Phillips screw is a lot quicker and more common for many applications.

The Phillips head has four points, but its design invites stripping the head. The Allen head is hexagonal, and has more contact faces for a better grip. I believe skateboards use the hex head because it's important to get those bolts TIGHT. Nothing worse than losing a wheel at 35 MPH!

Phillips has a small cross in the head, Allen has a hexagonal hole in the head. The use depends on the purpose, generally Phillips has a smaller head than Allen.

The phillips head was developed for production line fastening where speed is important. It self-aligns--try that with a slotted screw. However, there is a limit to torque, as they will "cam-out" of the head if too much torque is applied, unless there is a lot of axial pressure.

If speed is not important, but accurate torque is, the Allen head is better. However it takes time to align the driver with the fastener. They're more expensive fasteners.

See pictures. Both are designed so the screwdriver doesn't slip out of the screw. Allen keys can give more leverage to screw in an Allen Head screw.
