we talk of globalisation and generalisation in everything we also talk about engineering starndards used all around the world that is why they come to say metric, iso etc also standard systems like mks ,fps ,cgs,s.i. emerged. but even now in countries like u.s people use lbs (pounds) etc to measure and calculate and uk,india etc use s.i. why is this difference occuring?also even i heard that there are two metre scales called british and american in which american is 3cm smaller than the former? why is these all being followed ?why is there no globalisation in this?

If I ran one device rated at 125 volts 100 watts from a 125 volt power supply, and another device rated at 225 volts 100 watts (same wattage) from a 225 voltage power supply and the both voltage power supplies has the same diameter wires (type of conductors), which device would waist more electricity, making the electric bill more expensive?

For example, if you had a metal embedded in concrete, could you induce vibration in the metal at its resonant frequency, and have it loosen from its surroundings, without totally destroying the concrete, of course!

If you can provide links to back up your answer, that would be great.

So the earth surface spins, at about a 1000 plus mph, with a radius of about 4000 miles, and a rotation per day that would put a verticle centrifugal force on the person standing on the equator... if you sum the forces also taking into account gravity, that means the person would weigh less on the equator than the poles... because on the pole this centrifugal force at the equator would not exist... so i know i missed something but what is it?

I heard of a company in europe that makes and sells generators for about 12k. is it bs or are they just greedy corp. jerks realizing that if they just made one big enough it could solve the worlds energy crisis. No magnetic detereoration was claimed.

I am able to clearly hear FM stations deep within my parking garage 2 stories underground which is sheilded with concrete..but not AM. Why is this?

Is it possible the vents/pipes are somehow acting like waveguides for FM but not AM?

Its quite amazing really. Any creative thoughts?

Thanx

I just graduated with a BSEE. All the jobs I have found want someone with 3 years experience. They also want someone to know technically specific things that I don't know. I know I can learn most of these things but I feel like I am unqualified. Any recommendations or rules about when to ignore their requirements.
