If the machines you speak of are humankind, and machines like that, I think the answer may be yes.

Just as a brain cell does what's best for the person, without that cell even recognizing the concept of person . . . and just as a bee or an ant does what's best for the colony without truly appreciating the higher concept of colony, maybe we humans do the same.

Maybe certain things are in the best interest of the higher machine, without us individual units being able to comprehend it. Maybe it is good for the machine that we piss each other off and kill each other, although it's bad for us and we don't understand why we do it through all of history and in every society.

No. machines have neither limbic brain nor nonbiological analog to said structure, therefore they cannot feel or be driven by anger.
