Absolutely! Physics and Biology are, and continue to move closer to each other, and there are exciting (and scary) things resulting from that. I am waiting for a computer (or at least memory device) that is fully biological, and grows with demand on storage capacity "by itself"....!
Job security is another thing, though. Many BioTech companies either concentrate on one project, and/or are badly managed (too idealistic, not enough capitalistic), and fold as quick as they rose.

Biotechnology is a "buzz-word" of today.
It is like "superconductor", "buckyball", and "dot-com" of yesterday.
People who are in charge of a LOT of money, and dont understand the field, easily buy into these buzz-words. Sometimes, like in the case of space-race and space program they pan out. Sometimes, they do not.
If you want to get into something be cautious about buying into a buzz word. Talk to someone who understands the field well enough to know if the pay-off is going to be there in 5 years when all the buzz has moved to a new favorite word.
