You have just woke up. You hear the TV. The news is playing on it. The news is that we have extraterrestrial spacecrafts out side of our atmosphere. They appear to be hostel. They want this planet because it is compatible for there needs. Its like when you buy a new house and you have it sprayed for bugs and such. Well its basically the same concept except this time the extraterrestrial beings are looking at use like we are the vermin. The want to exterminate all human life before they move. How would this change your life? What would you do during a time like this. Do you think the human race will survive the hostile alien invasion?

Maybe the big bang theory was caused by a civilization of extraterrestrials who where advanced years beyond or technology. Maybe they had conflicts amongst there selves just as we do. Thus like we do they settled it by war. Maybe the big bang was caused buy there war. On the other hand what if we may be the first of intelligent extraterrestrial beings in this universe? Nevertheless, I am just wondering off in the world of science fiction. So what do all of you think?

so space is a false vacuum, theres a few atoms per cubic meter. so doesnt that mean as the earth spins and travels around the sun its very very slowing slowing down due to the tiny amount of friction. in 4 billion years could 1 day be 25 hours instead of 24?

Preferably good enough that I could enter information like "I live at 40 degrees north latitude, and it's 12:30 at night on august 13th 2005. What does the sky look like, including the position and phase of the moon and any planets which may be visible?" Or at least as close to that much information as possible. Greatly appreciated, and 10 points to the best link!

I've had two telescopes in my life and both have served me quite well. A small refractor Celestron and a medium sized Meridian reflector. Nice scopes for the relative newcomer to astronomy.

Now after several years of using these two I need a bigger better one. Deep sky objects are my next port of call. Anybody got any ideas.

Here are a couple of my ideas:
1. Scientific stuff, like landing near one of the poles.
2. Do something we've never done before, like land on the opposite side.
3. Land where we have landed before, to verify the stuff is really there and see what condition they're still in. Maybe the batteries on the moon buggy are still good!
4. Unfold a huge cloth or something that would be visible from Earth (at least with a telescope if not the naked eye).

I have stumbled across a web-site, proposing that possibly a "30 lunar-days" month was what we actually had sometime in history.

Does anyone know more about the subject?
I am intrigued. Is this worth my time?

Note, I am not uneducated but know NOTHING about astronomy.
