You have just woke up. You hear the TV. The news is playing on it. The news is that we have extraterrestrial spacecrafts out side of our atmosphere. They appear to be hostel. They want this planet because it is compatible for there needs. Its like when you buy a new house and you have it sprayed for bugs and such. Well its basically the same concept except this time the extraterrestrial beings are looking at use like we are the vermin. The want to exterminate all human life before they move. How would this change your life? What would you do during a time like this. Do you think the human race will survive the hostile alien invasion?

I think any civilization able to survive development of the technology used in interstellar travel will long ago have learned how to live in harmony with their surroundings. Humans MUST either kill themselves making weapons out of space travel technology, or change their war waging ways. I also think that any life that finds our species will be more interested in studying it and learning from it. Potentially we could be the first "Alien Civilization" thay have discovered. Once they see reruns of 'Accoring to Jim' they will probably just destroy us. No seriously, unless they came to our planet out of desperation (ie they would go extinct without our planet) i find it hard to believe they would be evil, because societies who act like that probably dont last very long cosmically. If your scenerio does unfold we probably wouldn't have any chance of defending ourselves. Like the movie War of the Worlds, our only chance would be something like a virus or bacteria quickly killing them off. Our Nuclear weapons could theoretically be detonated by aliens while still in their silos before we even know of their arrival. course it wouldnt make alot of sense to blow up the planet if they wanted to live on it. So my theory is that no other species would travel for hundreds if not thousands of years to blow another species up. Its very possible no biological entity could survive interstellar travel. Which leaves the possibility of encountering alien technology. Probes and the like, which most likely would be programmed to make their own decisions. Could an alien probe make the decision in a nanosecond that life on earth was unimportant? surely

If they were advanced enough to cross all those lightyears to get here, then they should be advanced enough to mine the minerals they need from better sources than Earth. For instance, there are large asteroids out there made of nearly pure iron or nickel. If they needed these resources, it would be far easier to get them from somewhere like that where they are already in an almost pure state.

but say they want to kill us just for fun. or they need a new o2-rich world to live on. whatever. well I know ppl, and ppl would destroy the world before letting a bunch of e.t. $#@!ers come in and take over.

how would it change my life? well I think it would end it. What would I do? I would probably screw my girlfriend one last time. Do I think we would survive? No. Any race sufficiently advanced to cross the cosmos would likely be able to take half of us out before we had any idea what happened.

I'm just guessing but I suspect that building an interstellar invasion fleet would be far more costly than anything that could be gained. If you need living space it would be cheaper to terraform the planets in your own solar system that are uninhabitable . Or use their material to construct space habitats.
In any case building invasion fleets is passe. Its so 20th century. If you wish to colonize the galaxy you need to build just one vessel: a von-neumann device. This hypothetical robotic ship would be capable of self -replication. It would land on useful worlds, make several copies of itself, which would then head outwards to repeat the process. Perhaps it could carry the genetic information of its builders in electronic form and duplicate the race on habitable planets. Within several million years the entire galaxy could be colonized.

The fact that we have NOT been subject to a Von Neumann device invasion can be taken as reasonable proof that there is no other intelligent life more advanced than our own, in the galaxy. This concept can be understood in greater detail by going to wikipedia and reading about the FERMI PARADOX, and SELF-REPLICATING SPACECRAFT.

Forget invasion fleets. All you need to colonize the galaxy is one Von Neumann probe.

We are only slightly less likely to be attacked by the Easter Bunny. This question might be better asked under the heading of "Folklore."

Any force capable of crossing the light years in large numbers could probably sterilise the planet in seconds without putting a foot on the ground.

I think you should write a science fiction book. Just try no to make it sound too much like 'War of the Worlds' or any of the several thousand other 'Alien Invasion' Sci-Fi tales published in the last 70 years.

Have you been watching ID4?
Just call Will Smith, he knows how to fly their craft. So , all we have to do is capture one and have Will fly it into the mothercraft and "Download Virus" and we will be fine. Try not to worry about it too much, we have Wlll Power!!

If they were advanced enough to cross lightyears of space, they could just drop asteroids on us before we even knew they were there.
