A friend of mine told me that if the sun was the slightest bit closer to the Earth, it'd be too hot for anybody to live on, and if the sun was the slightest bit farther away from the Earth, it'd be too cold for anybody to live on . IS THIS TRUE ? I know the sun is closer to the Earth during the summer, so I'm suspicious . Does what my friend told me have any basis in fact, or was he mistaken ?

I think we'll be looking back many years from now thinking about how fragile our spacestation, technology and dreams of space exploration were. We'll have several spacestation located throughout the galaxy, and small research colonies on the moon and possibly mars. Beyond that it's an endless quest for answers! Any thoughts?

I was watching Lara Croft Tomb Raider, and I have heard of something to the effect that at some point in our lifetime (other yahoo answer people are saying 12/21/12) that the planets will align. When I asked this question a few days ago, everyone said the palnets will never be in exact alignment. So my question is if the Tomb Raider movie is at all accurate, what do astronomers mean when they say that there will be a planetary alignment in December of 2012? Does this mean that all 9 (or 8) planets will be in perfect alignment if only for a few seconds causing a total eclipse, or does it simply mean that only the inner or outer planets will align with the Earth's orbit? I'm just curious. Thanks.

The giants causeway is a rare wonder

People say it took millions of years of natural erosion of basalt rock and the general cooling of volcanoic lava

The rock formations are helixical and parallel and dead vertical in places

what do you guys think, is this the hand of man, or even giant men as the name would suggest or do you think it's the result of millions of years

well this is my answer, the rocks are made of repeating units, almost brickwork in natrue, areas show sheer vertical flat and parallel layers, if this is due to millions of years then so was mount rushmore.

The question is, if it did not take millions of years, then who built it?

My logic tells me that since the earth is rotating the equator must be travelling the fastest, so this should be the best latitude to launch rockets because you could take advantage of the speed of the earth in reaching escape speed.

According to some news website, about the launch site to be made at Cape breton "The company chose Cape Breton because it lies at approximately the same latitude as Russia's launch facility, the Baikonur Cosmodrome."

Why is this latitude so wonderful?

(PS: this isn't a part of the question, but the fact that there is going to be this launch pad in Cape Breton, answers my first question on Yahoo answers whichly was how the heck can you "win a sub orbital space flight" from entering a contest at Shoppers drug mart? because i assumed it was only the russians doing it then.)
