On Earth, if you light a match the flame will poitn upwards and taper off, always pointing up.

Does it do the same thing in space? Or will it make like a perfect globe on energy surrounding the match?

If I know the actual diameter of an object (the Milky Way for example), does anyone know the math to calculate how far away it would have to be to subtend 45 degrees of the sky?

I know there is a formula that will calculate apparent size from distance and actual size, but I just can't find it.

I bought a reflector telescope off of ebay. The focuser if it is a focuser moves on a slide not up and down but horizontal. The secondary mirror moves with it.Is this a focuser or is this just changing the focal length? And if is not can a focuser be mounted on top of the slide?I don't have any eye pieces for it so I can't drop one in to see if it will focus...any help will be great....thanks

I was playing football at an outdoor futsal court just now during the night and the sky suddenly flashed dark red, which slowly dimmed down to normal sky, which lasted for about 10 seconds. What could it be? I was thinking of fireworks the moment I see it but realised that it's impossible when it stretched out covering most parts of the sky. Any expert views or similar experience?

Why isn't NASA located in Miami? That's where the space shuttle launches. Houston just has cowboys and horses and stuff.

There was a Lunar Eclipse on the 27th August and in Brisbane Australia, we had an incredible view of the whole eclipse. It started at 7PM and ended at about 10PM

The moon actually did turn an amazing colour red. I guess we were lucky to be in the right place at the right time.

The next, likened to this one, is due in 2011

doing a little Googling, I ran across this site....the table on that page explains the sidereal and synodic periods.... it has confused me greatly....but... what I noticed was that the inner planets' keep the same face to the sun, as the moon does to us, both Earth and Mars have nearly the same day length, and then you hit the gas planets and the cloud movement around them goes crazy fast, then get us to the outlying planets and they're crooked and spinning like wild!.... what's bothering me most is why the change from spinning to nearly NO spin the closer you get to the Sun?... and what good reason is there, then for both Earth and Mars to be on basically the same period.....

would the Earth spin be connected to the hit that brought us the moon?... should Mars be turning faster?.... and why DOESN"T the moon revolve...is it it's proximity to Earth?... and that's what's up with the inner planets?....

I thought it strange that there's two of each, too...thanks for ideas....

I am looking for some scientific theory that would allow someone to theoretically live for eternity.

The heat death of the universe is the largest barrier ...and I have read all kinds of theories on the ultimate fate of the universe...including the Big Crunch, the reign of photons, etc

The one in which I see that could sustain life indefinitely would be this multiverse idea...but I need to learn more about it first.

If there were an infinite number of universes, then is there a way to possibly escape this universe after entropy increases and life becomes unsustainable ...to another parallel universe with difference physical constants but for which you could still survive?

Is this possible from a physics perspective???

We all know that once a deceased human body decompose it returns to its natural form - DUST
Therefore, what relative mathematical equation &/or advance scientific analysis can illustrate/prove on how did a Big Bang DUST EVOLVE into a breathing cells, with circulating blood & an electrical charge that stimulates the heart & brain?

Ok say 50-75 years in the future a way was found to travel close to the speed of light and a spaceship could be built that could send a small group of humans to the nearest solar system but it would take 40 years to get there, do any of you really believe anyone in there right mind would volunteer for a mission like that?

to fill space at the speed of light. If,an undulation in the field were to occur,it would propagate outward from the electron at "C",however it could never catch up to its expanding static fields wavefront and thus propagate past it,

Can it be proven that a moving field diversion can exist in a region of space where no E-field has ever existed?

if so,would that imply that ALL photon locomotion requires the presence, however feeble,of a static electric field in order to propogate thru,or "on". ,think in terms of the curving wave on a
rope. this would also imply that a region of space that was devoid of ANY e-field would be completely dark and incapable of transmitting light or any other electromagnetic energy. .

do they strive to fill all space once created, meaning, post field creation, does the static field expand indefinitely,of course ever weaker but never becoming zero?

I think another universe existed before. My theory is that the universe was expanding then crunching thousands of times. But even if that theory is correct, how was their a universe in the first place. Hit me with as much theories as possible!
