Why isn't NASA located in Miami? That's where the space shuttle launches. Houston just has cowboys and horses and stuff.

I don't think Houston just has cowboys and horses. Maybe there is a problem at Miami that NASA can't be situated. Houston is the best place for experiments and other things.

Houston is also in former vice-president and president Lyndon B. Johnson's home state of Texas. Johnson was a cold warrior and strong supporter of the then-infant manned space program. Mission Control was relocated to the new ground control center in 1965, while Johnson was president. The original Mission Control has been restored to look as it did in 1969 (the first moon landing), and the current shuttle mission operations is elsewhere on the site. NASA is headquartered in Washington, D.C. Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral Florida prepares and launches the shuttle and ISS missions.

Let us try to complete the picture. Communications are so good it makes no difference. The cape is very important . Houston has decisions over the spacecraft. then there is another at Goddard out side of Washington D. C. where I worked and we had control over the ground stations.
