I've always wondered, does the universe go on forever and ever, or is a definite space with borderlines? And if there are borderlines, what is on the other side of the borderlines? I mean, I'm sitting on a chair. That chair posseses a space, and there is air beyond the boundaries of that space. Shouldn't this work for all objects in the universe, or the universe itself?

I haven't done any deep, profound or theoretical phsyics classes yet, but I just want to know.

My science teacher said that the universe is still expanding, even today, and that it will come back in. like if you streched a piece of rubber, then let go, it would go back to it's original shape. When will the universe do that? I'm interested =)

"Portugese astronomers have presented findings indicating that they've detected an enormous rocky planet orbiting the star mu Arae. Scientists say that this planet is probably as large as a rocky world can become, roughly the size of the planet Uranus - about 14 times the size of Earth."

"this planet is probably as large as a rocky world can become"...

Before what? If one more meteorite hits it does it become a blackhole?

This is what I get for waxing scientific while drinkin'.

My science teacher told me it was becasue space is black, but I thought it was the reflection of the water. His point was there is no water in Kansas, but there is lake and rivers for color. Who is right?

There's a GCSE-style question talking about some Chinese astronomer seeing Ganymede without a telescope in my science revision guide thingy. The answer to the question isn't even hinted beforehand in the 'fact bank', and I've become interested in what the answer could be...

I was thinking about buying an 8 inch orion telescope. Can any one tell me what things I could see with it and how hard it would be to locate objects? Am I getting a good deal if I buy it because it comes with a LaserMate Deluxe collimator and DeepMap 600 star chart.

Link to the website with the telescope:

Why do we always talk about space travel with the idea that Earth is a return point? What if we built a ship/ships capable of sustaining a small population for a longer time frame, point them in the direction of a possible earth-like planet and just let them go? I'd sign up for that trip! Anyone else?

We watched the ISS go by last night over Los Angeles. It started in the NNW sky and flew overhead. It was really bright.
As it got to the SE sky it just went from super bright to gone in just a few seconds. I don't think it got really get dimmer from distance because of how fast it just disappeared. Can anyone tell me why it was there one second and then...poof...gone? It was nowhere near the "horizon".

the other day i read something about how it was possible to conclude the distance and speed of some far away astronomic objects from the emission lines of hydrogene being present in the spectrum.
These objects were Quasars and it was determined that they move away from us at a good percentage of the speed of light, due to the expansion of space.
Now i thought .. has anybody ever tried pulling a spectrum from the background ?
was it even possible ?
as far as i know its some glob radiating around at just 4 Kelvin, but i do not really have an idea how it was possible to figure at which speed its moving away from us.
soo .. was there any test ? does anyone know something ?

When there is water there is life. Scientists have been studying planetary systems, physically and chemically for years already. But have they ever tried pouring tons of water on a planet like planet Mars? I know it's impossible to do that but i believe that they can carry water out here. Observe what happens when water is poured on Mars' "soil"? Isn't it that it's cold in Mars, and the closer you get to the core the temperature rises. Since it's cold in Mars are'nt these "aliens" are hiding somwhere underneath the ground?
