I have a question about the relationship between the distance from our sun and the temperature at that distance.

So we all know that the temperature on Mercury is much higher than on Pluto because it is closer to the Sun. But Earth's distance from the Sun does not remain constant throughout the year, and even though the distance from the Sun changes the temp on Earth seems to stay fairly constant, so what is going on here?

two aeroplanes crossed each others path in the sky, their jet streams made an X in the sky. i was lying on the ground looking at this. I looked back about two minutes later and the X had moved a few degrees in the sky (south i think). So how did this happen?

I just read a report that a multi-million dollar probe in space spotted an object twice the size of jupiter orbiting a star within the distance of mercery to our own sun and doing so in 1.2 days time. Would that not make for a very large near light speed super object?
