well think about it, plants can't grow without the sun, we can't see easily without the sun, us girls can't get a good tan without the sun, the whole earth will be wet without the sun to soak it up. Do you think it is important?

How about this ... Nothing could exist without it. The planet exists because the sun's gravity trapped rocky debris and it formed into the globe we are fortunate to inhabit.
The Sun's gravity also keeps the Earth in the privileged band it inhabits - not too hot or too bold - just right in fact, for life -
The Sun heats our world and lights it. Nothing would be able to live here without both of those. Perhaps the hardiest of bacteria might but that's all and even that's debatable.

Lets see how important is sun:-
1) All forms of energy comes from sun.
- Fossil fuels had trapped its energy from the sun millions of years ago through photosynthesis.
-Alternative forms of fuels
Solar: (obviously from sun).
Ethanol: Also trapped energy through photosynthesis, but only decades ago (not millions of years)
Wind: Wind is caused by variations of air pressure created by difference in atmospheric heat. Without sun, every place would be very cold and no winds would be there.
Hydraulic: Rivers rush toward the sea and that energy is trapped by human. But without sun heat, clouds wouldn't form, no rain or snow, no glacier formation, hence no rivers.
2) Point to be noted: Biggest catastrophes happened when sun light is blocked out from reaching the earth for years. It happened once 65 million years ago and biggest mass extinction of species (including dinosaurs) happened. Most probably a big enough (mile wide) meteor hit the earth, resulting in dust in atmosphere thick enough to block sunlight for years. Another time, some 70000 years or so ago, humans almost became extinct when a massive volcano erupted in Indonesia and volcanic ash blocked out the sun for years.
3) Without the sun, the temp. of earth would be so cold that life would never have been possible. How cold? Colder that the coldest that the poles have ever seen. Hundreds of degrees below zero.
4) Sun holds the earth in an elliptical path because of its gravitational pull. With out the sun, earth would have been in a perpetual linear motion, God knows where. Some theories even suggest that the earth came out of the sun and eventually cooled down into a spherical mass.
Without sun, not only life, but even our planet wouldn't be around.

The Sun is not only important for heat and light. There is a fundamental reason that the Sun is vital to our existence, and that is gravity. Without the Sun's gravitational pull, there would be no planetary system orbiting around it, and the mass that makes up the Earth would just float off into space. On the larger scale of the cosmos, without considering the needs of life on Earth, the Sun is just another medium sized star, of which there are millions, and will end up burning itself out, and nothing in the universe will miss it.
For 'Ambre Solaire' and other Sun tan lotion manufacturers, it is, of course, their 'raison d'être', their reason for existing, and without it they would soon go bust!

If the sun was just a touch away from the earth, all life would cease to exist as it would be too clod, it is the opposite if it was closer. All plants and animals need the sun to grow and humans do too. The universe is perfect in every way, How is then that most of us think it just came about without a creator who created it so perfectly??

the sun is the reason that life can survive on this planet, all things except marine animals deep in the ocean near to smoking vents require the sun for survival,it makes things grow, warmth etcWithout the sun,for example if it were to extinguish overnight the plant and animal diversity on earth would dissapear within a year.

one of the most important things we have. light and heat. cant live without heat, also, we wouldnt live if teh sun didnt exist for anotehr reason, plants couldnt have photosynthesised, releacing oxygen over millions of years to make the oxygen concentration in the atmosphere how it is today
