Are you 3 yrs old??? The moon takes the light from the sun, but the sun doesn't give the light to the moon assuming the moon's gonna owe it one. Makes me think of the way you act to me, asking questions randomly, thinking I owe you an answer merily.

Then, how do you explain the periods (as in now) when the Moon is still up (and visible in the West) after sunrise. Surely it is not needed either. In fact, the sky gets so bright that the Moon is difficult to see, while the Sun succeeds in being visible despite the bright sky.
Huh? Huh? How do you explain that? Huh? How?
Yeah? Well, try this:
If you know exactly where to look, it is possible, in the afternoon to see Venus before the sun has set.
So what gives? huh?
I think that the one that does not fit is the bright sky. It shoud stop being bright during the day so we can do astronomy without losing precious hours of sleep at night.
Then the Sun would be useful to keep us from tripping over telescope legs and such.
So, there!

I'm sure a lot of people have already answered this, but the sun provides energy to plants, which feed animals, both of which feed people. The sun provides heat and the light by which we live our lives. Apart from that, the sun is what lights the moon at night. So, without the sun, there is no life and there is no light of the moon.

Ok the sun is where we get all our energy from
as a result of whiich we can have life on earth
as a result of the sun's light plants can harness the light and convert inorganic compounds in to food and a gas which we neeed to live
its the basis of the food chain
the moon is just a rock that reflects the suns light and as it reflects it it seems to change shape according to what position theearth is in.

I thought I told you to stop taking the tablets. With that sort of imaginative insight you will make an excellent gym teacher one day.

oh my gosh, astronomy 101, the sun is the source of light in our solar system. The moon would be appear black without it. Please do a little research, and ask a more detailed question.
