What is the difference between the evening star and the morning star? Are they different in size? ( just like the phasing of the moon. it could be a half moon, a full moon, a quarter moon etc.)

Why does it seem like in just about every sci fi feature if there not in hyperspace or something the spaceships seem to go about 30 m.p.h.? And in the vacum of space would'nt a huge carrier be just as fast and manurverable as a fighter?

Lots of people have suggested over the years that the "star" which was the guide for the shepherds and the 3 Kings was really Halley's comet. But this nearby star that could become a SuperNova any day should be bright enough to read by at night. A similar exploding star could have been God's signal that his son was born in Bethlehem, don't you think?

Because gravity is a mass vs. mass connection (and assuming you could withstand the heat, had an elevator to get out, had a large enough room at the center able to resist the crushing effect above, etc., etc.) would you be weightless? or would gravity pull you apart?

Hi all, new to astronomy so sorry if any of my points are typical/stupid etc....but please, any input would be really appreciated - thanks! I am hoping to purchase a telescope which will last me for a reasonable time, without being excessively pricey. I am keen to have a GO-TO feature as I am not very confident in my knowledge of the sky. Having said this, I would still like to aim for good quality optics etc... Currently I am looking between the Celestron NexStar 130 SLT (£270) and the Celestron Nexstar 4 SE (£340), I have also seen the NexStar 102 SLT ((£300) Both of these 'scopes fit well into the top of my budget range. However, I understand that they all use different optical systems - the 130 a Reflector system, the 102 a Refractor and the 4 SE a Maksutov-Cassegrain system.Apertures are different- 130 5" and the 102 and 4 SE 4" (I think). What I am really hoping for is some advice, whether to steer me between these or to choose an entirely different one.

Any input is good!

based upon our planetary variances?
I mean, we have vast polar icecaps, active volcanos, severe weather, earthquakes, water covers 75% of the planet.
A lot of the same things we would deem to make other planets inhospitable to our needs.

The space station has been occupied for almost 7 years now. I know that I am the victim of 'reportable' news but has there been any science produced that hasn't already been done aboard the MIR or the short life of SpaceLAB, that justifies it's expense? (Other than marathon running, tourists and the ability to have elementary students ask questions of people who just happen to be in orbit)

If there is any planet that is a million miles away. I was also thinking about a site where one can see the current positions of the planets in the solar system and their relative positions. Still, I'd like to know if there is a point exactly million miles away from Earth and what it is.

What could this be?

An unknown type of probe?

It doesn't look manned

The letters or characters on the craft do not look English, Asian or any other known language of characters.

What do you think?
