here is my problem, and I have tried to figure it out but i cant. The furthest i got was trying the sum of squares which didn't work out because I had a cubed left and the answer didn't fit into what they asked. So,

The transformation x=z - b/3a converts the cubic equation ax^3 + bx^2 + cx + d=0 into one of the form z^3 + 3Hz + G=0. Find H and G in terms of a, b, c, d (Someone help this is driving me crazy!!!)

How is it possible to do this?

The total electric current in the wire leading to a group of 2 resistors in parallel connection is given by the formula: IT = (V/R1) + (V/R2) where IT = total electrical current, V = potential difference, and R1 and R2 are two resistances.

IT = 420/3x

V = 120

R1 = 15

R2 = 2x - 4

Find the values of IT.

The smaller value of IT is ____
The larger value of IT is ____

Can I calculate tonicity with molarity instead of osmolarity when I'm dealing with glucose and water?
I'm trying to calculate the tonicity of a fruit or vegetable w/glucose. I read that since glucose still retains its molecular structure in water, it is okay to use molarity instead of osmolarity.
I'm still a little bit confused about tonicity. Is there a specific quintative unit to describe tonicity or is it just classified into isotonic, hypertonic and hypotonice? So how would I determine the tonicity of a certain fruit or vegetable?

And which fruit or vegetable has a good amount of glucose?

Well I'm writing an essay about how religion supports the status quo and that it is a conservative force on society. So, one example I want to use is the fact that ______ discovered that the world is round and rotates around the sun, but people did not want to accept that because they were scared people will lose faith in religion..blah bllah blah..so i need to know who that person was.
thanks!

Sooo just a question that i've often wondered the answer to.

Say someone is having a bath (just pure water though) and they decide to mess about underwater. And they exhale whilst underwater.

Now when we exhale, we produce carbon dioxide gas. And carbon dioxide gas makes a solution acidic. So, if said person exhales underwater enough, is it possible that they are now bathing in an acidic solution. And is this detrimental to their health?

Very strange question, i know. But im curious. Anyway, thanks. xxx

A 100.0 kg commuter is standing on a train accelerating at 3.70 m/s^2. What coefficient of friction must exist between the commuter's feet and the floor to avoid sliding?

Can anyone help me with this? Can you show me how to solve this, or even what the answer is? Help! Thanks a lot.

Hey guys. I am having trouble with number one. I am lost on it. On number 2, I said No and 2L that right? Thanks

1) A gas of unknown molecular mass was allowed to effuse through a small opening under constant pressure conditions. It required 113 s for 1.0 L of the gas to effuse. Under identical experimental conditions it required 31 s for 1.0 L of O2 gas to effuse. Calculate the molar mass of the unknown gas. (Remember that the faster the rate of effusion, the shorter the time required for effusion of 1.0 L; that is, rate and time are inversely proportional.)

2)Suppose you are given two flasks at the same temperature, one of volume 2 L and the other of volume 3 L. In the 2-L flask the gas pressure is X atm, and the mass of gas in the flask is 4.8 g. In the 3-L flask the gas pressure is 0.1X, and the mass of gas is 0.36 g.
(a) Do the two gases have the same molar mass?
Yes
No
(b) If not, which contains the gas of higher molar mass?
Gas in 2-L
Gas in 3-L
