Sooo just a question that i've often wondered the answer to.

Say someone is having a bath (just pure water though) and they decide to mess about underwater. And they exhale whilst underwater.

Now when we exhale, we produce carbon dioxide gas. And carbon dioxide gas makes a solution acidic. So, if said person exhales underwater enough, is it possible that they are now bathing in an acidic solution. And is this detrimental to their health?

Very strange question, i know. But im curious. Anyway, thanks. xxx

PS Ocean is not acidic because of the vast amounts of aquatic plants and algae that photosynthesise the CO2 produced by marine life.

I think they would have to breathe an awful amount before there to be any affect. Also I don't think breathing underwater makes a chemical reaction like this. Think of all the marine animals giving off CO2 in the ocean, and the ocean is not acidic.

A person does not exhale pure carbon dioxide (mouth to mouth wouldn't work if this was true). and the amount that is exhaled wouldn't make a difference to 30+ gallons of water. This is just my opinion.
