Using the Power Rule, show that the slope of the graph y = x2 at any point x is exactly halfway between the slope of the forward secant on [x, x + h] and the slope of the backward secant on [x−h, x].

Why is this never the case for y = x^3 and y = sqrt(x)

I'm an aspiring writer creating a story in the vein of Ghostbusters, Ghost Hunters, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I know that paranormal investigation teams use experts from different fields such as demonology, mediumship, and parapsychology. But what abilities can a Wiccan use to aid in investigations? I REALLY NEED SOME GOOD ANSWERS!!!!!

I've been to wikipedia, but it doesn't say anything about the manufactoring of it. I've googled it, typing in every way I can think of to get it answered, but I can't find anything except it being found naturally in some edible fruits and green and black tea. If you know where it is found in nature besides those, that would be awesome too....

I'm very confused about math...Algebra actually...
Lets say you have 3 consecutive numbers, and the sum of them is 21...
You would do...
x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 21
3x +3 = 21
3x = 18
x = 6
But if you have 3 consecutive odd numbers, you would do x + x + 2 + x + 4...
WHY?!?! If you have 1 as x, then you'll get 1, 3, 5 for the numbers, and it would make sense... But if you have 2, 4, 6, it wouldn't make sense!!!
So basically... I want to know...
1) What's the reasoning behind the 3 consecutive odd numbers thing... Can someone explain how you make the equation?
2) Did I even get the odd numbers equation right?
3) What's the equation for 3 consecutive even numbers?
4) What's the reasoning behind the 3 consecutive even numbers thing? EXPLAIN!!!

THANK YOU!!!
And please don't just repeat what I said... I'm looking for explanations!

I pull into the driveway between a fence and my house, with not much room to spare. Then the driveway fans out into three spaces: One straight a head, another to the right , and another to the right again. On the far right is a row of hedges where I park. I have no trouble pulling in without hitting the hedges. However when I pull out, I can barely get the back end of the car between the fence and the house without scratching the right front fender on the hedges. Related to this is the question: Is backing up a reciprocal function to going forward? In other words, if I could replicate my steering when backing up (in relation to distance traveled), would the car go over the same path? If the answer is yes, then I just need to improve my driving skills. But I suspect that since the car is wide in relation to the spaces involved, it may not be reciprocal.

This is just a puzzle, I know the answer but just for general amusement or annoyance.

When you take any three digit number, not a reverse of itself (e.g 787).
Reverse it and subtract the smaller of the two from the larger.
(if left with a two digit number a zero must be placed in front of it, e.g 098)
Take the answer to this and its reverse and add them together.

Show why, in anyway you choose, why the answer will always be 1089.

1089

(A university lecturer did this trick on me and I was annoyed for the next few days trying to work out why.)
