I'm very confused about math...Algebra actually...
Lets say you have 3 consecutive numbers, and the sum of them is 21...
You would do...
x + x + 1 + x + 2 = 21
3x +3 = 21
3x = 18
x = 6
But if you have 3 consecutive odd numbers, you would do x + x + 2 + x + 4...
WHY?!?! If you have 1 as x, then you'll get 1, 3, 5 for the numbers, and it would make sense... But if you have 2, 4, 6, it wouldn't make sense!!!
So basically... I want to know...
1) What's the reasoning behind the 3 consecutive odd numbers thing... Can someone explain how you make the equation?
2) Did I even get the odd numbers equation right?
3) What's the equation for 3 consecutive even numbers?
4) What's the reasoning behind the 3 consecutive even numbers thing? EXPLAIN!!!

THANK YOU!!!
And please don't just repeat what I said... I'm looking for explanations!

when dealing with consecutive odd numbers write them as (2n+1), (2n+3) and (2n+5) for any value of n, you will always get an odd number (no confusion)

For even consecutive numbers write them as
(2n), (2n+2) and (2n+4) this way you get even numbers for any value of n

This should remove any confusion

Try it
solve for n and find the corresponding odd or even numbers

consecutive means in a row like 1 2 3

so break down 21 into 3 #'s
easy right 7
so if 7 is your base then you have(don't have) to make that your 2nd #
x+7+x=21
if you take 2 from 7 you get 5
5+7+x=21
now add the 2 that you took away from the 1st 7 to the last 7 and you get 9
5+7+9=21

now you have 3 consecutive odd numbers

3 consecutive ( or any kind of ) even numbers can not equal 21 21 is an odd number.

OK how you would go about this is:
each X has an invisible 1 in front of it. So add all the (1) X's together and you would get the 3x. Then add the one and the two to get the 3. then you subtract 3 from the 3 ( not the 3x ) and then subtract 3 from 21 (You are subtracting the # without the variable on both sides. Now you have 3x=18. Then you would divide 3x by 3x and 3x by 18. And you would come out with the answer of X=6.

Slope-intercept type: y = mx + b, the place m is the slope and b is the y-intercept a million.) The slope is 4, so which you already understand the equation to date is y = 4x + b. Now exchange the element (a million, -2) for x and y into the equation so which you will remedy for b: y = 4x + b (exchange a million for x and -2 for y) -2 = 4(a million) + b -2 = 4 + b -6 = b answer: y = 4x - 6 2.) returned, the slope is 3, so its equation to date is y = 3x + b. remedy for b by utilising substituting the element (5, -3) for x and y into the equation: y = 3x + b -3 = 3(5) + b -3 = 15 + b -18 = b answer: y = 3x - 18 3.) comparable element... y = -3x + b 0 = -3(-3) + b 0 = 9 + b -9 = b answer: y = -3x - 9 4.) This time the slope is undefined, which skill the line is vertical. while the slope is undefined, the equation of the line is immediately x = ?. The x-coordinate of the element (7, 8) is 7, so the equation of the line is basically x = 7. answer: x = 7

Odd numbers are 2x + 1 , 2x + 3 , 2x + 5

6x + 9 = 21
6x = 12
x = 2

Odd nos. are 5 , 7 , 9
