The problem is:

A part of $5,000 was invested at 7% annual interest and the remaining at 8% annual interest. At the end of the year, the total amount received was $5398. How much money was invested at each rate?

....I know the procedure on how to do this problem, but i just need someone to validate me with my answer. Here is my work:

*Amount invested at 7% = X
*Amount invested at 8% = (5,000-X)

So, Investment= Rate X Amount = Interest

*7% investment= 0.07 rate (X) = 0.07
*% investment = 0.08 rate (5,000-X) = 0.08(5,000-X)
*Total investment = 0.07(X) + 0.08(5,000-X) = 5,398
So,: 0.07x + 400 - 0.08x = 5,398
(0.07-0.08)x = 5,398-400
(-0.01x/-0.01) = (4,998/-0.01)
(x = -498,800 @ 7%)

.....Is my answer correct? If not, would you please be so kind to tell me where my mistake is?

You know how they said that we evolved form apes and stuff, and noahs ark?And that a giant meteorid crashed into the planet and killed off all the dinosaurs? What I think is that..ok,the dinosaurs could have lived at the same time as dinosaurs, and the humans had no idea of it,and,(God did not exist around this time)Then a meteroid crashed into the planet wiping out all humans and dinosaurs, and at the same time, creating lakes and rivers all around the world. Then they could have filled up with water after the flood as mentioned in Noahs Ark,filling the big holes in the ground with water(that the meteorids created)And then all the dinosaurs and humans drowned. Then God shows up and creates more humans. Then the continent(known as Pangea back then millions of years ago or so) splits up into what we now call like North America,Russia,Europe,Africa,Australia, and so on.

I am a geology major. I transfered to Univeristy Alaska Fairbanks from Murray State University in KY. MSU only required up to Calculus and two semesters of any given science other than geology. UAF required two semesters of Physics, two of Chemistry and all the way up to Calculus 2. I have heard that all of this is useless because in the field, everything is on computer and you really do not even use the other sciences that much, aside from reference. I would like to know how true this is. I am struggeling in the physics class and my math class. I am worried that I will not be able to cut it as a geologist if I have to used calculus in everyday work and know all these physics formulas even though the geology classes are so easy for me.

Thanks for your responses!

Dramamine (dimenhydrinate, motion sickness pills), robaxin (methocarbamol), and klonopin (clonazepam)? 16, 3, and 4 of each. Don't ******* ask why. If you tell me not to do drugs, they're bad for me, or anything like that, I will hate you with a burning passion for all of eternity.

These pills won't interact and kill me will they? I ate the three muscle relaxers (robaxin) about 2 or 3 hours ago. I snorted, dissolved, chewed, swallowed the K's about an hour ago. I'm having a really ******* bad day and I need to leave this world for awhile. The drugs I already took aren't doing enough. Will the dramamine OD me or anything? I've done 20 dramamines at a time once, that's not what I'm worried about. I'm worried about the drugs interacting and ******* me up.
