Does the average American even know what "Physics" is?

When I mention Physics to someone in the US they said "yea..it's good to excersize" (Physics = phys ed). The average American has no conception about anything deeper than belching.

Well, I am glad to see xenophobia is not just an American thing like a lack of knowledge of physics seems to be.
