Acid rain is any form of precipitation---rain ,snow ,sleet, fog-which contains high levels of sulphuric acid and nitric acid. The two important air pollutants which produce these acids are sulphur dioxide and nitrogen oxide .These pollutants combine with the water vapour in the air and produce the above acids.
The sulphur dioxide gas is emitted by power stations and automobiles whereas burning of fossil fuels contribute to both nitrogen and sulphur emissions.Volcanic eruption is also considered as one of the sources of these pollutants.Occurance of acid rain has been reported both in Canada and USA
Most fish species die if acid rain mixes with lake and pond water as pH value of water comes down.Aerosol of acid rain can cause respiratory disorders in human beings.
THe only way to prevent acid rain is to prevent the above pollutants from mixing with atmosphere which is a difficult job.

all this information i learned from a movie we watched in social studies last year, and im not sure if it is all correct because i zoned out for a little bit because it was fog-horn boring, but i think it might help you a little:

3. i think mexico (and mexico city especially) are more affected by acid rain because of all the polution in the air. polution (or acid) gets carried away in the sky with clouds, and when the clouds burst and it rains, the acid is carried around with it.
*the movie we watched spent a lot of time explaining acid rain in mexico city, mexico, so im guessing that it may be more affected than anything else
4. reduce poltuion, and acid rain will be reduced.
