All i can think of is that if you make a plot of y = x and y = 1 - square root of (1-a) from x = 0 to x = 1 you will see that the graph of y = 1 - square root of (1-x) is always beneath the graph of y = x. However, the proof is to be done without using graphs. How is that possible then?

S: There is a car that is blue and weighs less than 4000 lbs.

My first question is what do they mean by nontrivial?
The other thing that's confusing me is that the statement contains an "and". If it just said "There is a car that weighs less than 4000 lbs." the negation would be "All cars weigh more than 4000 lbs." but I'm confused about how to deny two things.

Thanks!

It seems weird that the moon is just the right size to block out the sun.. does the gravitational pull of the sun on the moon make it just the right distance so that it can block the sun exactly? i dunno if u get my question lol.

A rhinoceros is at the origin of coordinates at t1=0. For the next 12 seonds, the rhino's average velocity has x component -3.6 m/s and y component 3.9 m/s. Assuming no acceleration, at time t2=12 seconds, what are the x and y coordinates of the rhino? How far is the rhino from the origin?

I did V = sq rt (-3.6^2 + 3.9^2) to get the resultant, then multiplied that by time to get displacement. Is that right?

And how can I find the coordinates? Thanks very much!!!!

For the last 4 the directions are "Chords, tangents, and secants are shown, find the value of x".

PLEASE show your work so I will understand it (I really want to learn how to do it, not just have you do my homework). Thanks a lot!!!

I posted this a million times and no one knows how to do it. eek.

the weight of an object follows this equation: , where C is a constant, and r is the distance that the object is from the center of the earth.

a. Solve the equation for r.

b. Suppose that an object is 100 pounds when it is at sea level. Find the value of C that makes the equation true. (Sea level is 3,963 miles from the center of the earth.)

c. Use the value of C you found in the previous question to determine how much the object would weigh in

i. Death Valley (282 feet below sea level)

ii. The top of Mt McKinley (20,430 feet above sea level)

I'm writing a story about animals, and I need four major animals to represent the four elements of fire, water, earth and air. I have already found two - Swallow for air, Fox for fire. On the others, however, I'm stuck. Any suggestions?

Water -
This was hard due to the fact that there are so many to choose from. However, I need it to thrive & be able to (more easily) defeat other animals in a fight or escape [more] easily in water while also being able to travel at a moderate pace without water.

Earth -
This can pretty much be anything. It's prefered if it's nothing too small - no ants, for example. Speed would be nice but is not necessary.

You can also, if you wish, comment on my choices for fire and air. ^.^
