For the first 2 the directions are "Find the measure of each numbered angle".

For the last 4 the directions are "Chords, tangents, and secants are shown, find the value of x".

PLEASE show your work so I will understand it (I really want to learn how to do it, not just have you do my homework). Thanks a lot!!!

I posted this a million times and no one knows how to do it. eek.

The ' in my diagram actually means degrees.

And to the first poster, i have no idea what photo came up for you, but when I click it, it shows my diagram that I made. hmm. sorry.

1) The angles formed by two secants crossing inside a circle
will equal half the sum of the two arcs. In this case,
(50+30)/2 = 40 degrees.

2) An angle formed by two secants outside of a circle will equal half of the difference of the two arcs that they form. In this case, the two arcs are 110 and 50, so the measurement of angle 2 = (110-50)/2 = 60/2 = 30 degrees

3) The measurment of two secants originating from a single point outside of a circle will both equal the product of its two parts. Each secant is made up of two parts. The first is 4 and x, the second is 6 and 8.
4x = 6(8)
4x = 48
x = 12

4) A secant and a tangent originating from the same point will be equal to each other if you square the length of the tangent and multiply the two parts of the secant. In this case, the tangent is length x, and the two parts of the secant are 4 and 5.
x^2 = 4(5)
x^2 = 20
x = sqrt 20 = 2sqrt5

5) The same rule applies here as in example 3.
4(2) = 3x
8 = 3x
x = 8/3 = 2 2/3

6) I'm going to assume that this picture is suppose to represent a tangent and a secant because there are only three length shown. So the same rule applies as in number 4.
6(6) = x(3x)
36 = 3x^2
12 = x^2
x = sqrt 12 = 2sqrt3
