S: There is a car that is blue and weighs less than 4000 lbs.

My first question is what do they mean by nontrivial?
The other thing that's confusing me is that the statement contains an "and". If it just said "There is a car that weighs less than 4000 lbs." the negation would be "All cars weigh more than 4000 lbs." but I'm confused about how to deny two things.

Thanks!

I think I may have figured it out, does this seem right?

All cars are not blue or weigh more than 4000 lbs.

You got it! (Or so I think)

(A and B) ' = A' or B' if I remember my Boolean algebra.

Congratulations to you!!!

A better way of putting it will be:

There is a car that is blue and weighs less than 4000 lbs but all cars are not blue and all don't weigh less than 4000 lbs.

A trivial negation would be:

There is no car that is blue and weighs less than 4000 lbs.
