Diamond is brittle...
Diamond is harder than Titanium...
Titanium will melt under super high heat...

So what's the hardest thing (if possible, as hard as a diamond) but not as brittle as a diamond?

My question is...

Could we built a structure a mile high? Five miles high? Higher? Perhaps a monolithic structure such as a single column tower or something similar would be more difficult but what if the object had an enormous/deep base - say 10 miles for example - could it support a structure one mile (or more) high? What would prevent this? Gravity? Wind sheer? Techtonic movement?

Regards
Conor

I really want to see the Perseids this year, but I can't figure out when to look. In this article http://www.nightskyinfo.com/sky_highlights/ it says that the Perseids will peak before dawn on the mornings of August 12 and 13. Can anyone tell me a more precise timing? I live in Europe. Thanks!

In the last month there has been many earthquakes throughout the world. This somewhat worries me, because it hasn't hit a populated area yet, exception of the one in Japan. There were series of major earthquakes this week too. I just had a gut feeling that soon its going to hit a major city.

There are many forms of energy being discussed around the world right now. I’ve recently stumbled onto a topic in Australia. They apparently have found a way to make what they have coined a “steam cell’ which should not be confused with a stem cell. According to company called Enginion AG, they have found a way to make steam in about 30 seconds. Does anybody know exactly about the process which they use to achieve this?
