The galvanised article is protected even if the zinc coating isbroken.can you reason this out?

It's all to do with the reactivity series - if zinc is more reactive than the metal it's protecting then the water/acid will erode the zinc instead of the less reactive metal underneath, zinc coating is an example of both a physical barrier and sacrificial protection.

The Zn/Fe cell is still functional.
